Cairo
Wadi Degla

A limestone valley situated just outside of El Zahraa el Maadi.

Cairo Wadi Degla
The Lonely Boulder

One kilometer into the valley, on the left side, about two hundred meters from the dirt road, stands a large boulder. About four meters in height and one and a half meters in width.

Cairo Wadi Degla The Lonely Boulder
3 Baby Steps

BEWARE OF THE SLOPING FALL BELOW. Within the cluster of boulders in the area. This one is the first you encounter. On the smoothest face of this boulder there are plenty of pockets and bulbs to ascend on. Easy for new climbers.

6A+ AK47

Short traverse right, starting with some good jugs to a hard move and a sharp finishing hold. WARNING TOP OUT IS SKETCHY. Would recommend the finishing jug left of the crack.

6A Too Many Creeps

On a slightly overhanging face, follow the L shaped line to a good top out.

5 Bambino

Climb a pocket covered slab towards a juggy vertical top-out.

6A Bassti's Crack

On the wall just right of "The lonely boulder", climb towards the obvious longitudinal crack. This is the original line to follow, a variation is possible starting just below the crack, but features less secure holds.

Cairo Wadi Degla
Wine and Cheese

After passing the first man-made dam, four kilometers into the valley, on the left side, stacked atop many fallen boulders are four defined boulders standing tall in a row. These boulders created a tunnel in which you can climb

The rock here is crumbly and chalk like. Deep pockets and pinches line the walls. You can stretch your legs to reach both walls.

Cairo Wadi Degla Wine and Cheese
6 Real Heel

A tension based problem, with nice pinches and crimps. Hard top out. Climb the third boulder left while facing South (towards the Wadi Degla path). Standing start.

5+ Up and Over

When facing the northern face climb the leftest boulder up and over.

Cairo Wadi Degla
Ice Berg Area

At the 5km mark, right before the second dam, on the left side of the valley lies a large rectangular boulder. Its left face is covered with grainy sloping holds, its front face is covered in sharp coral and its right face is chossy.

Cairo Wadi Degla Ice Berg Area
6A Bermuda's Triangle

Climb on the right half of the front face of Titanic, starting with two hands in an under-cling at the center of the boulder.

Cairo Wadi Degla
The Wall Area

Park your car at the second Wadi Dam and walk 1km. The Wall Area is identified by a large flat rock wall, split in half by a growing crack. This shaded area is home to the "Edge of time" Boulder and many more unnamed boulders.

Cairo Wadi Degla The Wall Area
6C Edge of Time

This boulder is a beautiful introduction to climbing on small edges and balancing on microscopic foot holds. The first of its kind: “the edge of time” boulder is covered in tiny crystals and climbs like a gem. Spread yourself thin over its smooth surface to make it straight to the top.

Cairo Wadi Degla
Canyon Area

This area is situated below the Wadi-Degla Visitor's center. It is a short channel of hard limestone walls that vary in heights between three and eight meters.

Cairo Wadi Degla Canyon Area
5+ The Womb

A short but cute sit-start boulder which originally exits directly but can alternatively (harder) exit right.

6B Swamp Crack

An incredible four meter roof crack which links to a top out on to the lip of the Wadi Degla Canyon. A great opportunity to practice foot jams and climbing efficiently. After climbing the crack mantle over the bulge and stand up. WARNING the highest rock formations at the lip of the canyon are crumbly.
