South Korea
Climbing in South Korea is an awesome experience. There is rock everywhere, predominantly granite. The locals are amazing, too. Even if you have a language barrier, they are really accepting and you can usually figure it out with hand signals. Crags can get pretty crowded on the weekend, especially around the Seoul area. The locals tend to sandbag their ratings a little. Each group tends to have its own favorite spot; they have the routes wired pretty tight, so they can think a route is easier than it really is. |
Gyeongsangnam-do & Busan
This province has a high density of climbing areas with Busan and Ulsan as main cities. |
Ae-bawi
Ae-bawi 애바위 stands tall and overlooks the captivating coastline of the south sea. It was developed in 2001 and is located on Geoje Island. It is granite rock of mostly multi- pitch routes with face climbing on the first pitches and slight overhangs on the second pitches. The longest route is 62m and the crag faces southeast. |

Baekun-san
(Hanbaek-am) - This granite crag was opened to the public in November 2008. It offers seventeen routes, including a few multi-pitches with one five-pitch route. It faces south and was developed to honor a member of the K2 expedition team in 2008 from Ulsan Hanbaek Mountain Club 울산한백산악회. This crag used to be called Central Wall 중앙벽. (Jowa-byeok) - This small crag is 500m to the left of Hanbaek-am. It offers challenging climbs on a steep slab that faces south. Th e routes are relatively short and have not been named or graded because there have been multiple developers in this area. If attempting the granite routes here, the climbing is like a hard 5.11. This is a good place to warm up before climbing at the main crag. (Wu-byeok) - This is a training crag for beginners. It is composed of easy, granite slab routes that have not been named or graded because there have been multiple developers in this area. This wall faces south as well. |
