攀登 in Esperance

Fun highball.

Unhappy to walk away from three-star lines so that I can drive across the Nullarbor.

Needs a bit of cleaning.

Got the top and the bottom but missed the elusive middle

Good fun. The low start is probably the only hard bit.

Top roped this and the climb to the right of it (Varlain, 18). There is a guidebook online which has more detail about these climbs.

There is only a single bolt at the top of this climb, so we used the bolts for a climb across.

The rock on this wall is a bit unreliable; partner and I had a few holds on the easy sections pop off in our hands and were glad we weren’t leading. I’m sure with a bit more traffic it will get cleaned up. The music wall (around the corner) has more reliable rock.

Great exposure and atmosphere.

Toproped first, then Nicolle seconded. Her first proper lead!

We then toproped The Roaring Forties (19; the next climb across to the right as you face the wall) which was fantastic. Shares anchors with this climb.

Went back to try again. I can feel the final move and the top hold is good, but slightly above my risk tolerance without a spot. Coming off final move would end in a sideways fall head first into a rock
