Ascents in Almscliff by Jim Croft

Tried this last year, but was too weak to do it. Felt OK on it this time.

lean on second go, first time got wrong handed on move left to flake.

finished via the Central Climb variation thingy.

with Guido, hard low down, delicate higher up. Traversed off at half height ledge after crux.

My first Amscliff HVS and found it OK! Good gear from first horizontal. Had a mat too.

Finally got around to leading this one Bit easier than it looks, once you know the moves, but still a hard start.

Another VS 5b with a very hard start, great moves above, worth more stars.

3 times on top rope, solo next time.

Fantastic, put this off for too long. Took the five star finish for full effect.

Hard finish, was still pumped from Z climb and did not help myself by wandering into the harder direct. Got back onroute and pulled over the top with slight tension from the rope.

If you like Offwidths its good, last VS at Almscliff.

Have done 3 times since.

Scary pull across.

Very exposed, bit of rope drag after moving around crux nose. Great finishing holds. Did same night as completing all climbs under HS at Almscliff. Only one HS left (not inc micro routes), then just the remaining VS's to do.

Very scary for such a small climb, no gear so its a solo.

Seconded as I was too ill to lead anything. Went home and went to bed.

Finally got the nerve to lead this one, very strenuous at the grade.

Sustained and steeper than it looks from below.

Fell off near start, moved gear away from jam then did it. Guido seconded.

Pumpy, has to be graded harder than is, because it does the crux of Traditional Climb (VS 4c) and then has a pumpy hand jam traverse with nothing for feet. Suggest VS 5a.

Filling in the gaps, only 3 VS climbs left at Almscliff for me to lead. Then its HVS!

Very, very good. The only bad thing about the climb was the pigeon shit.

with Guido, pleased to have soloed it found it a hard lead, mind though that having no rack and not blocking jams with cams made it a bit easier that way.
