The first pitch is stellar. The second pitch is a great experience: it's got lots of fun stuff and although being somewhat runout the climbing is easy enough (for someone who can climb P1) to not feel too scarey [IMHO this pitch is actually more like grade 16 than the 18 given in Climb Tasmania].
Also note that the Climb Tas pitch 1 length is not correct: it is 30 m. |

thin crux at 3/4 height of the first pitch made me doubt my climbing capabilities. the .2 held my fall but with this and two micronuts I didn't dare trying forever and aided the section after two more shots. second pitch is 3d adventureland

The Clemency of Tassie.. at Ben Lomond: The last place i expected to happen across such a route. A fairly expected 1st pitch of... yep crack climbing. But with a few more face holds than were used to. A big deadpoint at half height provided quite the feature. Crux move seemed impossible. How hard it really is well never know, only how hard it is when you step through 2 slings clipped through gear; understandably, not nearly as hard as doing it free. The 2nd pitch was where i was really taken aback. The lead swung to my hands and reminiscent of the tibro classic, a wild winding line up blockey territory with alot of 'extra-curricular' items growing off the rock. Runouts and thoughtful gear through easyish territory a-plenty, and some rockstar chimney work at the end. My crack gloves finally spat the dummy, one ripping off during a committing sequence which prompted me to stuff it down my shirt.. only thing i could think to do. A great curtain call for a fantastic Ben Lomond trip! Chomping at the bit to get back here.

Was tough to find the start of the climb. Quite the scramble. We did a belayed traverse to get to what we thought was the start of the climb. Quite an adventurous type of climb!

A real adventure. Final pitch taking some thinking and acrobatics for the grade, (16 in the guide), it would probably be quite wet a lot of the time. Satisfying top out.

Our first route on the Ben. Had trouble finding the start of the route as we approached from below. Great quality moves once we found the line, some committing moves on the second pitch.

Good climbing up an indistinct line. Started up Solaris but I think we ended up on Giant Vibrator in the top half. Interesting featured rock. Far less chossy than it looks, but still quite a few dodgy loose blocks to tiptoe around.

One of the best climbs on Ben Lomond. A fairly committing and sustained climbing leads o a good rest before moving into an amazing crux sequence. A rest on the rope while I tried to read the crux.

Started too late. Ended up bailing after the first pitch by doing an awkward traverse to a bail anchor(which took us another 3 pithes ergh). Probably would have been faster just to finish the whole climb.

Led p1 and 2. Pitch 2 is excellent, great stemming and technical chimneying. The rest is all pretty good too. Pulling past the loose block thing at the end of pitch 1 is scary.
Great day to be on the ben. Warm in the sun but cold in the shade. While shivering at the 2nd belay I watched a huge wedgie being chased by an angry currawong, then by two ravens. |

After lots of rain the 1st pitch was very wet and slimy. Wandered our way to the top via two more pitches of contrived climbing on semi dry rock to the top of the buttress. Pulled on a couple of cams to get past the slime. Not great climbing, but a stellar day to be up on the Ben.
