Ascents in Maku Iwa

Far between the bolts.

Cool start into a thin'ish crux sequence about half way. Fell on the first attempt but held it together for the second. Another great line on the left side of Maku Iwa. Plenty of lady bugs buzzing around on an unseasonably warm mid-November day.

Followed on this one. No way I could have led it and placed gear. really cool crack climbing but I basically lay-backed the whole thing (ha). Great line and well worth the scramble to get to it.

Good little adventurous scramble before the main vertical face. Seems like more of a 5.6 than a 5.10a.

Warm-up. Packed crag, so found this small face with a couple of cool options.

Finally got the initial first bolt crux sequence and then the rest is fairly straight-froward. Red point next time!

Awesome semi-burly line, with alternating lay-backs that took me a few goes to figure out. Next time.

Pretty straight forward, short route to end the day

One of the most classic and historical routes of Japan. Amazing climbing following a beautiful sloppy edge on a vertical rock.

Scungy af.

Cool couple of slab moves.

D'oh, slipped at the start so no onsight. Sent once I restarted. As with many climbs in Japan on the crag, only semi-confident that this is the climb I climbed...

Topo a bit weird on this one (the far left line seems redundant). This climb was pretty sweet. More challenging than I was expecting. Sustained slab climbing with some face climbing too. Rad.

Resorted to this given busy'ness on one of the front rocks. Ended up being a good little climb to end the day.

Attempted this but bailed at the first bolt. Ended up doing a climb one set of bolts to the left that's not on the topo (just outside the dark patch). Super mossy slab with good holds. Doesn't seem to get too much action but ok for a warm-up.

Went up the 'obvious' line up the middle of face but most bolts were pretty sketchy/rusty. Possible that we meandered two different routes? Anyway, didn't take a fall to test the worthiness of the bolts. Probs for the best!

Not sure if Clown is the one I did in Gulliver's? It was central slab and then the vertical black streak. Confused and slightly panic'd above the bolt for a while but eventually went a bit right to get the last (or second last?) clip before the anchor. Cool climb.

Quick one before the mad scramble to the 420 bus.
