Ascents in Harlequin Cracks Area having Beta

Interesting climb with some crack jamming and face climbing. The first pitch felt considerably harder than the third yet they are the same grade? If you can't jam at all it might not be nice. Face right at the top of the first pitch to get onto the belay ledge. I nearly missed this and was about to pull up over the loose blocks. Second pitch was lovely. Watch for rope drag on the third pitch.

Linked p2&3 on double ropes. Required careful rope management. p5 was v ave, but other pitches were good.

A real adventure, some pitches easy, some terrifying. Look forward to doing it again. Would not do chimney as slippery and mossy but climb big arete on Left. Also overhang on 3rd pitch was awkward, would go right. Even Pete was scared.

Epic first pitch and a great way to climb this wall

Good line and great cut loose move on lip of overhang high on cliff. Wasn't sure of grade but compares with top pitch of Transatlantic crossing. Worth doing but peregrines are a bit frisky at the moment though.

Nice moves. Not hard but initial pro is not cliff-towing

Worked my way around the roof, which I should have climbed direct.

Shorties beware, the reach to the jug slot is desparate. Falling off is ill advised.

The grade 16 2nd pitch is very good, well protected, steep and exposed.

The second pitch is an amazing finger crack

Terrific pitch, steepish with great exposure and good gear, worth 2 stars. Get on it.

Mostly about 6 but some nice moves in the 3rd pitch crack.

The routes up this bit of the wall all seem kinda similar. Some friable rock. But ok enough.

Bit of a solo in. The crux is surviving the hawks that attack you on the 2nd pitch.

Awesome first pitch. Well protected and great climbing. Pitch 2 and 3 were nothing special. Be careful of rope drag if heading right on pitch 3.

Ah, what a climb! Just getting to the start was an adventure. The first pitch is a very interesting series of puzzles. Great if you like chimneys or corners or if you're a bit masochistic. Lead all three pitches.

Got a bit lost scrambling to the base of this - but the first pitch is nice!

This might be slightly controversial, but this is easily my favourite climb at Araps (after Mr. Chicken, admittedly). Great pro, cool 3-dimensional moves, and just enough to keep you thinking. There are rap bolts at the top of the first pitch (just off to the right) for those who don't want to do the terrible top pitches (highly recommend skipping those). Even my climbing partner (who hates caving) loved it! Do it now, thank me later.

The things you climb when every starred route on the wall is busy. It's not awful.

We attempted to link the last two pitches which I don't recommend.

Had to cut both feet to fit through the sausage maker.

Nice easy climb, second pitch went up calabrese crack as it was more interesting then a grade 9 scramble.

Lovely until the sausage squeeze. Hips didn't fit. Should have just bridged the outside the first time. Second pitch has over lovely move. Third pitch starts fun then tapers off.

The chimney was wicked. Heaps of good hexes. Had to get out at one point when the squeeze got too real.

Also this was one chimney too many for my harness. The abrasion sawed through my gear loop, showering the chimney with my gear...

Linked top two pitches in a draggy scramble.

I’ve never grunted more. Briefly thought the rock was my new home.

First pitch was great, one of the best 11's at the mount, the second and third were pretty standard arapiles jug hauls though, nothing to write home about

Almost got stuck with my hydro pack in the salami squeeze... Desperate... Route 3

Not the easiest approach. Would do the third pitch direct up the corner next time. Lacing up the zigzag line would cause a lot of drag. There are some alternate, more direct options that are a little more difficult but also look well protected.

Very nice, varied, "old-fashioned" climbing up the corner of the first pitch. We kept up the line of the corner on the top pitch to avoid a queue and that was as good.

An absolute ripper at the grade. Sam led P1, I had the rest.
