With Neil. Climbed out at the end of the day with a combination of pack-hauling and climbing WITH packs... Not a reccommended exit, since the Wall Of Tree bush-bash back to the road is harder than the climb (and took longer). P1 - Clean 2nd (okay, easy traversing on good rock); P2 - Onsight (hard start, a few thin and reachy moves, and a rather desperately thin crux section at 2/3rds height); P3 - Clean 2nd (not so good. Ironstone dinnerplates, vegetation and sand). Probably best to bail from P2

Committing with freezing fingers. Good slabbing until the middle of P2. Partner went left through crimps, I went right to reachy holds. Bolt was reachily in the middle of these options. Would probably rap from top of P2 as P3 is short and the abseil of LHC was a tough rope pull

Linked pitch 2&3 with alpine draws for drag, worked well.
Rapped with 70m rope from top to belay point top of first pitch, rope didn't quite make it...but made it work (dodgey). an 80m rope would be better for 2 pitch rappel or 3 pitch rappel for short rope to be safer.

Awesome!
Looks a bit shit from the ground but there is a lot of value in the 2nd pitch.
The traverse on P1 is fun and cruisey.
P2 - I didnt read that the thin crux was near the top and I thought Id done the thin moves before I got there.
Full value slab at the grade.
The walk out is also a bit shit too. Felt very lost bush bashing our way out. Followed the cliff line as best as we could until we found a track. |

P1 only. bailed at the 2nd last bolt. Diabolically hard moves past the bolt which I couldn't stick. Exciting climbing up mostly perfect rock BUT this route is littered with broken sandy flakes which is a bit of a let down. Was unable to stick what appeared to be the crux move below the upper bulge and bailed.

Only time for a quick go at the 1st pitch. I'm still open to the idea of coming back to this and sussing it properly. Some really cool and surprisingly dynamic moves (for a face climb?) up an obvious line of features, though I was surprised at the rather mixed rock quality. Had a few worthy sections of linkage on the onsight attempt.

3 shots. The same move on the blunt arete at the start shut me down every time on the tick... Pull back on after fall, do the move clean, then clean to the top. Definately have to get on it when I'm more rested. Really awesome climbing, quite long, and quite a lot of hard moves (3 particularly cruxy sequences). Beautiful rock. Amazing exposure. A technicians delight.

P1 only. Good to clean up this old dog. Still took me 2 shots to put together the lower arete crux, though the full sun MIGHT have been a factor. The lower crux move felt like I was working damned hard on the tick. Until the top 10m of P1, this is some of the best (and weirdest) rock in the Blueys... But despite being great climbing, it the climb itself doesn't QUITE take advantage of that mega rock. The middle flowstone is refreshing to hold. The upper crux is hyper-thin and techy.

A true, very chalkless onsight today with much flash pump and concern about where the holds were. Good to do this as it's sort've been on the list for quite a while. Really fun climbing with some wild features and amazing rock but alas the best of it is very very easy. I thought it was fairly tricky but there are a number of ledgey rests to break it up. Pitch two looks like a bit of an abomination and not inspiring at all.

Beautiful rock and unique rounded arete action. It felt pretty hard at 23 for me.
I also took a pretty heinous fall above the first bolt on the second pitch. It was a bit of a game ender which unfortunately meant we had to bail. I am thinking that a semi-hanging belay at the base of the slab of the second pitch would be nice. It could reduce the amount of rope out for the leader on the first 5 or so meters, and also save the belayer from a shit sidewards pull off the existing belay ledge. Not sure if that makes sense. But open to hear what others think when they try it! |
