The ultimate anti-offwidth! 4th go/3rd day (2nd shot today.) I took some massive lobs on my first shot! 29.6.04: End of the day. Fell off at the crux. Finished in fading light. 15.5.04 Got it with one rest on TR.

2nd shot - x1 fall at the crux! I swear I don't get pumped on this - I just get stressed up there the higher up I climb. as your whole body is engaged and most of the moves in the meat of it aren't entirely secure. It just builds up and up, and with the slight runout between the last bolts this culminates in my forgetting about my feet.

Another classic arete line! I like Gareth's sentiment of this being a total anti-offwidth. On the send it was desperate and slappy! Proud of working and doing this ground-up. Sending cred goes to Dave - I was too scared to hop back on this after sussing it out first - I guess I was scared of the fact that it may take some projecting and was using conditions as an excuse - I was amidst cleaning the gear when he convinced me to give another crack. Thanks again, man. Great day out with Dave, Simmo and Will. Met some cool interstaters too.

Tried to do this ground up - first time I've backed off on a climb because I was just too scared! I made it to where my feet were half a metre above the last bolt and I was still half a metre below the bolt above three times. Each time was strung out, desperate and shitting myself and decided to bail off rather than attempting to climb further. Kudos to all the ascensionists who went ground up!

Shame about the ledge. Climbing to the ledge is ok, off the ledge is great. A very hard crux (that I couldn't do) leads to the top face crack that is amazingly awesome at about 26. I tried this briefly after I did BCT and it made BCT feel like walking down the street.

Was saving this for years for an onsight attempt. I think my 1 frog day a year has ended that. Two laps on tr after we lowered off theory. In the sun but second shot was pretty good. A Possible short project for a cooler day. Better than I thought it would be.

Chucked a TR on this to see what is need to send this. Ended up doing all the crux moves with the help of Duncan's YouTube beta. Very cool sequences. Feels doable.

Overnight rain and drizzle in the morning. No wind. 85% humidity. Burn 1 shaky to ledge, fell on crux 2, then climbed from the bolt to the top clean in the worst conditions. Almost as proud of this effort as a clean send. - Burn 2 more confident. Fell crux 2, then for some reason my boots just started visibly sliding off the holds [17]

So, so happy to come full circle this particular journey that has so much meaning because of Duncan and his role in my climbing and life. 10 days, but split by 17 years. So crazy. In this instance, the grade of the route has no meaning to me. But with few repeats it's probably important to at least contribute an opinion. Two of the seven previous ascentionists have suggested 31 for a pre-placed gear ascent. I'm happy enough to agree with that, noting that when this route is led placing the gear, which I see happening soon, I feel 32 is deserved. [19]
