Got quite confused by route descriptions without topo and the various additional lines that must have been recently added. This route is actually more vertical than the others (aside from stepping left at the top) and has runouts on easy territory between the fun bits.

16 Easy | Gear on Running on Empty - with jw, Ethan Parkes, jordan | 20m, 6 | Don't Bother | ||||
The draws were already on from jw 's lead. I cleaned the route as I was the last of our group to climb (my first time cleaning! (even if it was basic with no need for me to tie in/re-thread the rope/etc))
The rock quality felt super sketchy in many spots, a lot of 'hollow' sounding holds and definitely more than a few bits of loose rock here and there. Cleaned the more obvious sketchy loose rock on my way back down, but I would still definitely be careful here. Also a surprisingly annoying amount of little black ants both at the base in this area, as well as at points on the climb, sometimes right where you're wanting to hold. I can't remember which bolt, but at one point the easiest natural line took me to the left, but the bolt was far off to the right, which made things a little awkward. May have just been my beta though. The approach to this area was pretty long/a little overgrown/etc too.. quite a bit of rock scrambling/etc, sometimes felt like we were free-climbing. Could definitely be made nicer with a little work.. but given the route.. not sure it's even worth bothering; maybe for some of the other stuff along the way, or when the rock is more stable feeling? There's only a single non-locking carabiner at the top, and the top bolts aren't linked, so you're pretty much trusting your life on that single piece of gear when the last person is lowering down. |

Good position. Would be a suitable candidate for double ropes, but 4-5 long slings keep the drag down if using a single. We also did a lap of the bolted arete to the right that goes up to the same anchor as BR. Good climbing - maybe 14?

With traffic it should clean up but we managed to break off several small flakes and footholds
