Ascents in Slapes Gully

I'm told this is a first lead ascent of this route. A really nice route that's technical and committing on gear. Thanks again B for the catch. Big ask when you've never belayed let alone climbed before.

Enough reasonable rock and climbing to rate a "good".

Good climbing up high.

Quite sustained.

Exciting

Bit tricky.

Seemed too hard getting into the corner, then too easy after that.

Attempt on Top Rope, seemed ok. Stuck under the rooflet.

I think you have to jam, fairly uncommon in the Adelaide Hills.

Not memorable.

Keep to the good rock on the L wall.

It wasn't elegant - almost weighted rope - need to repeat it with style!

This area sheds rock regularly.

I remember quite enjoying this one.

Couple of good moves. Adequate pro at the crux.

Had a sit on lead, at the crux, for first ascent (? grade 17 for an onsight)

Contrived. Protectable I think, but would be a grade or two harder on lead.

Suggest to switch to L side of arete before the stacked blocks per the topo in the guidebook

Some worthwhile climbing, but a very prickly rose to negotiate..

Challenging & sustained

The corner asks a few questions.

A straight crackline with some interest.

Worthwhile but enthusiasm required to get to this crag.

Enjoyable moves on reasonable rock.

This would be a nice climb if it wasn't for the approach.

Challenging corner

Lead attempt - retreated from the corner

A bit scary with respect to the rock.

Not hard but check those holds.

Care required but OK.

There wasn't m(any) places for protection on Slapeman, but 1 m to the L there's a fat ol' crack so I climbed it instead (~Gr 8?). I started at the acacia. Super fun and confidence building after falling last weekend.

LRS - clipped alpine butterflies on static line for protection.

I was prepared to record anything after the approach!

A messy route requiring care.
