Bailed after Weindorfers due to time and exposure. Need to return to complete the rest. Unforgettable route, intimidating in places and very exposed to weather with zero room for error. Not to be underestimated. 1914 - respect

Epic experience... We used rope for 2 abseils... In a group of four took us around 10 to 12 car to car following the top ridge line depending on how much time you spend on each of them and the summit.. Started from Dove Car Park through the left hand side and then at the end came back down through Lake Wilks track which is very nice. Get ready for a big day

Felt pretty lost a fair few times. Peter led the way and it was so good to have him there. We did two abseils after finding the slings and tatts. Some really exposed free solo sections. They were easy at these sections, but the mental game was tough. Really long day, but we finally made it to cradle mountain after so many doubts. It's unbelievable how we're able to make it up slopes that we had previously thought as insurmountable from afar!

That was such a fun day, I recommend approaching via the east side of the lake because it gives a better view of the approach to the first peak. We came from the west (very pretty) and got a bit lost trying to find the best route. So much fun

I really wanted to get out here before I headed east to explore the rest of Tassie, so when I checked 4 different weather sites and 3 of them showed very poor weather and 1 showed only slightly poor weather, I made the obvious choice and disregarded all the forecasts except the one I wanted to believe. Unsurprisingly, this led to me being served all of the finest Tasmanian weather: sun, cloud, fog, rain, hail, snow. I'd say it added some authenticity to the experience - some alpine weather for an alpine route.

Completely worth it in every way regardless though, and a beautiful way to experience the Tasmanian outback. A good proper adventure complete with a couple hours of hiking, lots of scrambling, some engaging exposed sections, an abseil, and stunning views of the peaks and lakes all over the area. Absolutely brilliant.

mega! such an epic day! lots of scrambling with incredible panoramic views and in an exposed position. got semi lost a couple times and ended up wading through alpine scrub, but route-finding was mostly straightforward. didn't feel the need to rope up for anything, even if the exposure was spicy, the movement was easy. rapped from Weindorfers, scrambled down the other abseil. glorious weather. so much fun!!

Fantastic adventure and perfect weather. One of those days in the mountains that you never want to end!

Beta if you want it: 9h C2C, up via Hansens and back via Marion’s/Dove Lake. It took us 2h 10min to the top of Little Horn, 4h 40min to top of Weindorfer’s, and then 6h 50min to the summit of Cradle. We carried a light rack in case we wanted to rope up, but didn’t use it (glad to have the option though). Abseiled the full ~23m from Weindorfer’s towers, you’d have to be pretty bold to solo down below the tat. Hardest scrambling was the down-climbing from Little Horn, and a few exposed sections up Weindorfer’s. Once you reach Smithie’s there are lots more options for which route you want to take through the talus; we went up most the straightforward pinnacles and bypassed a few steep ones. Definitely recommend!!!

5 hours car to car. Awesome day out! Took the fast and light option (no rope) and the descent off Little Horn is easily scrambled but it is very sketchy to downclimb off Weindorfers. Thank goodness it was a sunny day with dry rock...

6 hours car to car, we had a bit of snow and ice on the route and was quite wet which slowed us down abit. Didn't find the need to rope up, The first abseil is optional depending on your confidence and ability. My recommended rack is a set of nuts and larges slings and lot off if you feel to need to be roped up.

An awesome alpine adventure day out. Much more straightforward than expected and we completed it in about 9 hours at a very leisurely pace returning via Marion's Lookout. The only time we used the rope was to do a short (10m?) abseil off Weindorfer's Tower after scrambling down the initial portion of the drop. There was tat in place for this. As of 12/17 there is no tat in place on Little Horn (and no abseils are really needed here unless the rock was very wet), a piece of tat with a mallion on the pinnacle just before Weindorfers (another easy down climb in good conditions) and then the tat coming off Weindorfers. Probably the best day 'walk' that can be done in the area!!!

Such a great day out, very lucky that the weather held out for us!

Took us about 6.5 hours at a comfortable pace. Only did the single abseil of weindorfers (tat + malion in place). The description is very easy to follow, and i was suprirsed to find there was a very obvious path to follow for the majority of the route. Did not rope up for the exposed traverse, but can definitely see why people would choose to, particularly in poor conditions.

Excellent climb. A long day, took us 10 hs from face track to the summit of cradle mountain (we were a bit slow on some sections).

We got a bit of light rain during first half of the climb, and it was not so bad... Rain can probably make the last part more interesting, as the rock hopping at the end can get slippery

The tat is still in place, we almost miss it by a bit.

Given that the abseil from Weindorfer's tower has an intermediate tat, it can probably be done in 15 m abseils... I think the whole clim can be done with a 30 m rope...

What an epic day out, conditions felt perfect with sunny blue skies and minimal wind! Took the Hanson peak approach which was worth it. Used rope for the Weindorfer's Tower abseil after scrambling down to the second tat. Downclimbed other abseils without too much concern. Ledge traverse felt a bit spicy without rope but mainly due to exposure as holds are there. 10 hours car to car (with running back from summit to get 7pm bus) but we took our time as a group of 4. Couple beers at the tavern to finish the day off

The weather was horrible bucketing down and roaring wind but I persevered. Visibility was very poor due to the fog.

Managed to climb all of the larger pillars and take the most direct up them. Missed the first abseil with a sketchy downclimb. Second one was quite clear and took a while to set up and retrieve the rope due to the wind. Missed the last rap with a relatively easy downclimb.

Some sections were substantially harder than the grade but that’s the beauty of the climb. You can make it as hard or easy as you want.

5.5 hours in total return to carpark.

pretty good day out, great views and great weather. starting early will get your car to Ronny creek for a shorter walk. or start later catch the shuttle bus in to dove lake and possibly miss the 6pm bus back as we did. actual climbing is pretty easy, no need for any gear really. the one longer abseil you can bring a rope for, but if you take your time it's a do-able 20m down climb if youre confident. (saves a lot of weight) once at the main tourist summit, take the poles back and down main track, don't try go down one of the scree slopes, they get MUCH WORSE further down the gully!!

Great. 23m abseil is the only required one, possible to take a smaller rope and tat and break it into several raps. Probably possible as 2x10m grade 16 downclimb/scrambles if you lose the rope altogether - not recommended as falls here would have moderate consequence.
