One epic Climb!!! Finally get to cross Long Bot to Freedom of my list!!!!!!

Really nice solid climb! Fell on the slightly sketchy crux, but never felt such solid slopers 🥰 Excited to return and do it on lead next time.

Lovely layback with super solid hand & foot holds (on the left) all the way to the top.

Great (and easy) route to climb. Cleaning the route is a bit tricky due to the ledges (lowering becomes slightly tricky).

The first 4 pitches are all graded at least 2 grades too high, but the last pitch is a long, sustained traverse on small holds, rope drag becomes a factor and the 18 grade is accurate.

No chains at the top. Only a single mallion.

Use 2 50m trad ropes makes life a lot easier

First multi pitch

When abseiling down from the top of Mooikrans avoid linking pitches, we have attempted to link pitches by abseiling right down to the cave but the ropes got stuck on both attempts. Go down to the base of the last pitches chains before attempting abseiling to the cave and pulling the rope through.

The last two pitches through the roof of the cave up to the top of Mooikrans we agreed seemed more closer to 21 in grading some moves a bit harder than the 21 crux on the third pitch.

There is a bolt loose on the base of the third pitch stance.

We were climbing in a party of three, give yourself about 5 hours to do the climb give or take, a party of two will be faster if 21 is in your comfort zone. Do not attempt the last two pitches out of the cave if 21 is not in your comfort zone.

Definitely not V5 as listed here.

Working on right-hand variation

On Climbing.co.za it says V2, I would say its a V3 personally. On the Crag it says V5, definitely don't think its that difficult.

Route finding is tricky and all the different bolts and “unnecessary” anchors make it confusing.

Bailed at the top of the 4th pitch. Definitely coming back for this one!

Kinda scary

With the wind howling up the face that made for a pretty exciting climb. Quickdraws blowing up off the harness and even my partners eddy at one point. Luckily mellowed a bit for the abseil. Great Spot!!

I think a few holds have broken off on the roof of pitch 5 coming out of the cave. Harder than a 19 now, I would say 21 or harder.

Multipitch Sport: Birthday climb in Harrismith. Took Emma on this fun day out. Interesting traverse. Dropped phone down the cliff, amazingly it bounced and landed on a ledge next to her. Even more amazingly it still worked! Happy not to loose those photos. Emma was destroyed after this!

Awesome climb. Pitch 3 is the hardest, very thin. Pitch 4 is looong and a ton of fun ! Some loose rock to be carefull of in the recess pitch 5. Aid section in 7 quite fun, pull on 3 or 4 draws to get through. (no extra gear required)

A thunderstorm sarted cracking while Peter was getting in pitch 3, so we bailed could wait out the short hail at the foot of the climb before heading down to car.

Greg was supposed to lead the 18... shat my pants during the climb, and traversing to the next pitch !
