Routes as trad in Joshua Tree National Park

A start up a sensational thin stemming corner leads to excellent steep jamming and lie backing. A brilliant entry to J-Tree 5.11s.

Mostly a sport route but take a sling to girth hitch the fixed pin and also a small cam (black totem or green alien) for above the last bolt. From that cam it is easy but very run out to the chains. Quite cruxy and reachy for the grade but with some of the best rock Joshua Tree has to offer.

Tricky moves up the face and crack lead to a grand romp through the hand crack roof.

Good climbing but careful with all the hollow flakes.

Needs a small-med cam around half height.

Climb the tenuous slab past one bolt to some bouldery crack climbing and some glorious vertical hands above. Doesn’t get much better. Take extra #2-4 cams for the top as it’s otherwise very slim pickings for an anchor.

One of Josh’s more splitter splitters. Excellent crack climbing with a good bit of weirdness thrown in to keep it interesting.

Excellent and sustained crack climbing on bullet rock that is guarded by a heinous boulder off the deck. “You don’t get to include the first 10ft in the grade”.....

Very committing hand crack which requires full on hand and toe jamming. Crack widens to fist jam size for last 20 ft and the angle eases off. Great climb to practice jamming technique. Rock is coarse which helps with the climb. Two anchor bolts. Multiples of #1 #.75. One #2 is helpful up high.
