攀登 in Sam Bullock Wall

Grovelly off-width climbing, only had one #3 which made it pretty spicy, but was saved by a hidden #0.5 in the pocket. Would recommend taking two #4s if you wanna play it safe

Fantastic climb. Glad to get the onsite after a day of crack climbing / projecting.

Classic Yosemite style 5.9+ a.k.a. 17+ / very hard for the grade. Had two B.D. #3's & #4's (Blue / Grey), just safe enough with those.

The slab / mantle move near the top was a bit spicy in the full sun, with worsening friction.

Alice had a great trash (top-rope flash) ascent up to the tree near the top.

Bridged between the two cracks. Massive calf pump. 8m run out to start without big cams,no big deal. Bomber #0.75 and #1 (green & red B.D. cams) inside the crack on the left.

Partner and two friends top-roped it after. Great line.

Quite an experience. If you’re not comfortable with a 16 let’s hope your trad anchor is strong enough to hold a fall…

That's a spicy 17, first half very doable, top half intense. Probably didn't help that it was off the back of 'Troll'.

First pitch is more of a scramble, put one piece in. Second pitch: first half felt desperate, because I don't really know how to off-width and felt like I needed more large cams. Second half felt delicate/run-out/loose. Good times.

Took more big gear this time which was good, I think you'd fit the #6 which I didn't take. Much easier, my crack climbing has improved, still had some spicy moments, doesn't help when you only have aggressive shoes and they slip on the sides of the crack (same for Mātatatata whānui and Century Crack Plus).

Great route, took plenty of big gear (4 / 5 / 6 / 8 cams plus blue and purple hexes), crux at the bottom of the 2nd pitch felt harder than 16 (did I miss something) but the rest of it is very straight forward, so maybe makes sense, need to get back on it.

Still struggling on the last moves

Had a go last week on lead, solid and quick until past last bolt where ended up hanging. The tides today didn’t allowed us to jump on the climb until late afternoon. With no much juice left we decided to top rope to work the crux. Somehow it feels harder than the 23 we tried earlier today.

Found the feet hold after the last bolt which make it so much easier.

Protection was a bit spicy up the top!
