Ascents of Kachoong as Hang dog

This route has been on my mind since I first saw the legendary photos. It was a privilege to hop on and live out a climbing fantasy. Getting to the roof, I found myself increasingly intimidated and fluffed the beta on the traverse to the lip, requiring a sit. On the next attempt, I committed and pulled through, power screaming at the top of my lungs. Yes, it is as good as everyone says

The stuff of dreams. Did not have my feet sorted for the quest to the lip and took a small whip. Re grouped and turned the lip with no fuss immediately after.

Took a nice gear fall on the roof! This route is iconic for a reason!

I am sure if this was not a final day climb I would have had enough energy to pull over the top.

we all hopped on birthday boy's project. i dogged it on the overhang and had to ascend a couple metres to get back on. would be good to try it with preplaced gear next time, after i figure out the heel hooks and get over the exposure.

Aaaah! I took two of the biggest whips on gear I have ever had. Just couldn't keep my forearms together for the mantle out of the roof. Good fun and a stiff warm up.

Lewis did the lords work.

Found the first few face moves the trickiest, quite reachy.

Fluffed the roof sequence. Led out feet first but got too fancy in a figure 4 trying to switch around without campussing. Lip move was easier than expected.

Such a fun climb!!

Joined the hordes. Fell anyway. Need stronger arms or lighter legs,or both

Too tired to pull over the lip so rested on the rope. Needed to get a better heel hook going.

Got my first and only attempt on it this time around. 1 Hang dog just before starting the roof, pumped out screwing around with cams and the rest instead of going for it. Will be back to clean it up next time

Another failed attempt at this climb... on second again!! Jugged up to the lip after coming off, then climbed on, very very nice climbing the whole way, just need to figure out the roof moves

Amazing finale to our week at Araps. Paul put in an awesome effort on lead. I couldn't keep it together through the roof and had to prussic back to the rock.

Full value. Climbed the starting wall fine, and powered across the roof. Don't hang around before the roof contemplating, you will only get pumped. Pulled the lip...and slipped off because the headwall was still wet from the rain. Took a nasty 5m fall. Will probably protect the lip next time.

Got the beta for the roof. Next time!

Cleaning the climb, fell in the overhang and had to prussik up.

One swing, then got back on and got through the roof the second time. Need to remember when clipping the pin to keep both strands of the rope on my right hand side, so as not to get tangled in them when beginning the roof traverse!
