Make sure you explore thoroughly once you have done the flakey bit and are on top of the boulder. It is not necessary to crawl through the tiny passage to get to the base of p3. The actual passage is one you can shuffle through sideways whilst standing up.

The Cathedral | ||||||
17 | ★★★ Maharajah Flake Start | 10m | ★★★ Classic
Near the top of p1 (or 2 if you're not running pitches in guidebook together) is hard if you can't jam. My friend took 2 lead falls here.
I found the flake start hard. The final few moves are on a steepish slab and are psychologically committing. |

The Hump Area The Hump | ||||||
18 | ★★★ The Initiation | 90m, 1 | ★ Good
Spoilers
First pitch is the hardest - shallow corner which felt insecure in Mythos. Easier higher up. Short traverse on p3, felt a little dicey but was OK. Being able to handjam would be a help on p4. |

The belay in the first cave isn't the nicest. Fine climbing up the 3rd pitch though, despite some dirt in the crack.

Coke Ovens Cliff | ||||||
17 | ★★ Sap | 55m | ★★ Very Good
Did variant thing described in 1984 guide. Scary with loose rock. Righthanded finish looks better with more convenient abseils.
|
||||||
17 | ★★ Sap | 55m | ★★★ Classic
First pitch is classic. Pitch 2 is hard. If you continue up after p2 as I did it gets dicey, and the ledge slopes and is basically sand (though the anchor's ok once you get to the corner). P3 as described in the guide looked good, p3 which I did was ok too.

Technical climbing that pushes you. Was glad to traverse right to anchor at top of Absolutely Sweet Marie p1, which is apparently after all the hard moves.

Led pp 1, 3, 5. Four parties on the route before us, top party had a tendency to knock rock off. My partner had no helmet. It started to rain lightly at 1st belay, this continued intermittently. Traverse was quite wet. Mist started to come in, by the time I was leading p5 I couldn't see the ground for it. Found p5 scary, one of the other parties around was able to give some beta.
A great day!!! |

Make sure you have good pro in the top of the corner/crack before you step left on to the face. As the comments of others indicate, the bolt is placed high. I was quite scared.
