Ascents by Mark Gamble having Distinct route

Lead this p w. Suzy 2nding. What great rock with great moves on it. The next p. was daunting but again great rock & p3 looks pretty fab. Hope to have a go at it on 2nd soon.

Guy had warned me it was a sandbag at 16, but I think in retrospect, while it is sustained, I'm thinking maybe 17. Gabby belayed, Dave 2nded. Some blocks are definitely suspect, needs a bit more traffic.

2nd climb of the day. A thought provoking crux, but got it after much huming & arhing. Daniel belayed & 2nd'd.

Spotted this one after I'd lead Slow Cure. A lot easier than that one, my feeling is 15. Dave belayed & 2nded.

Lead this one after 3rding Jake & Graham up Tea For Two & Miss Kandy Kane. It's good, didn't need any of the gear I took with, was happy with the spacing of the bolts. The last moves at the top are gold! Jake belayed & 2nd'ed

This is a pretty pumpy climb at the grade. Clipping that last bolt was very go-ey, thought I was going to come off on those last few metres, but hung on with grim determination & got there in the end. Flopped over onto the top-out & gulped in air for several minutes. Jake 2nd'd.

Quite good, wasn't expecting any where near the amount of FHs Darrin has put up on this route, & ran out 2 clips before the chains. Fortunately, I had 2 slings with me & used these. Marcus belayed & lead P2. After we had belayed Ben up, Dave showed up, so we lowered a rope down to him. He forgot to bring a rope, so it was a bit tricky getting down, but we got there in the end with some tricky juggling.

Terry belayed. With my long reach, it meant I could reach the jug, so it felt like a 14.

Don't recall if it was Alison or Jenny who belayed me, but this was a great line, passing over a cave or two and what a great wall it is, full of nice climbs. Afterwards we all went and jumped in the lake (dam) for a very refreashing swim.

Some 16. I think I've done grade 12s that were harder. Certainly The Bard.

Wanted to do something backing down off the South Face Route as we were. A very nice climb, definitely worth the 3*. NIce one Gareth. Pete belayed many thanks.

I had to practice the first bit on TR before I was confident to lead this one again. But then it was a breeze to clip the first bolt. David 2nded.

With Terry & Lillian. This route is such a joy, never get tired of doing it - although it has been quite a while since I was on it, with Kachoong actually way back when...

A few interesting & varying moves on this one make it a nice lead for the grade

Finally got this one clean 12.6.05 Dog Couldn't commit to the crux & tried several options before I had to rest on the gear. Then I committed & stuck the sequence. Ben belayed.

Nice to get this one on lead. Pretty straight forward. Debbie 2nd'd 31.12.04 I thought this '16' was harder than the 17 next to it! Marrcus did a good job of leading it.

There's no way this is a 16, viciously overhanging - hanging around to place gear would be a nightmare. Preplaced the gear while TRing the 20. Dan belayed.

2nd Mike up this one, on the LHS of the big block. He was climbinb pretty strong at this time. This was my first trip away with the BRC.

I think I 2nd Alison up this one, a nice 16, bit soft at the grade.

Had to have another shot on it. The crux sequence is gold.

After Craig & Ron. Chickened out & let Craig lead it.

With EFC. Nice run up this beginner friendly route. Tony belayed.

With OPG. Nothing special.

This was the 2nd climb I did there that day with OPG. I think Stella and Justin belayed me up it.

These last two were definitely easier than YW & NW, but nice moves none the less. Bruce ran both p's together.

Nice moves and more like a 16 in my books, although the run out at the overhang was too long for my liking.

Had to step down, & reset, but got it in the end.

A few less hand holds now. Photo op. Nice to see Frosty down there.

Committing crux & the loose rock meant I had to back off & re-assess. Trad = I clipped the crux bolt only.

With Terry & Lillian. Tricky crux = came off just above the 2nd bolt. The rock is good, some loose blocks here & there, needs a bit more traffic.

I had this one well under control when a hold broke & I skated down 2m. Damn it! The first bolt is more like 10-11m up, but not particularly difficult. It definitely needs a bolt lower down tho. Dave 2nd'd

3rd'd Graham & Jake up this tough little unit. It needs an upgrade, it's tougher than a 16. Graham took a 10m whipper trying to clip that last bolt, very run-out indeed. We all had to rest at the crux. The position of the bolt & the holds surrounding it make it extremely tricky to clip & move on, even for a tall person like me.

Ditto. Had 4 shots to get the crux, although the higher crux was easier than NW. Pretty demoralising really.

Couldn't pull it off cleanly. End of day.

Left wrist too sore, so bailed for another day.
