Bit chossy, but climbs well enough. 2 16 27 Trad lead by Luke Yerbury An exciting pitch with minimal (but good) gear. The guidebook says traverse right 5m to base of vegetated crack. If you climb straight up from the peg it is no more than 1-2 meters to the right. 3 16 33 Trad lead by Luke Yerbury Linked last two pitches with many extenders and back cleaning some gear. Drag wasn't a problem. This was the highlight, awesome rock, unique features and fun moves! It was incredibly windy which added some excitement, forecast said 10km/h. Not true. Nice multi at the grade, but you wanna be confident in your ability to find/place gear and climb well above it at times. The rock improves the higher you get, with some awesome compact sandstone in the last pitch.

Well this was so much more awesome and fun than I expected. The fear to fun ratio was heavily leaning towards fun! P1 average, think of it as an access pitch. Will try the Cynics United start next time, just wanted the full Ewbank experience today. P2, a sketchy start, that flake moves a LOT. Just don’t fall. Can be creative with gear afterwards, but yes a bit of a run out. (yellow totem, 0.75 BD and a 1 BD) Super awesome stemming above your belayer!! P3, harder move to start but better protection than P2. Nothing too bad, then a pleasant cruise afterwards. P4, what an awesome feature/ramp to finish!! A very awesome day and first full trad multi for Jack! (Not counting the 2 pitches of Spartan) C2C about 3.5 hours. Mega Classic rating doesn’t include P1. Took a lot of gear, standard BD/WC double rack but also additional full rack of totems and Z4s; so had a lot of triples!

Led P1 and P4. P1 was actually not bad even with a few bushes. Start of P2 was highly risky on lead as the flake is flexing a lot and can't hold a wire. Punchy start and awful blocks to land on. Rusty piton and #0.5 in a pocket further left in the roof is the only pro. P3 start was quite punchy and hard to place gear but it worked (#0.3, #0.4 and #0.75). P4 was awkward in a way but not too bad. I would say the grade is a little higher given the 2 cruxes and the level of risk. Some blocks/holds are not easy to trust.

Great fun and good gear. Wouldn't do P1 again due to unfavourable crack/shrubbery ratio. Josie led P2. Much hokey-pokey was required to protect and pass the roof at the start of P3, which I linked with P4.

A Ewbank classic! A superb climb with a bit of everything; cracks, jugs, slab, roof and a ramp that can only be believed once climbed. A great adventure. 1st pitch of Cynics United strongly recommended as alternative start.

Did the first pitch of cynics United and walked over to continue the Iliad. A few tough moves if 16-18 is your limit. Mega fun, double rack did the job. Good to get a bunch of Trad leads in. Top anchor was extended tree belay backed up with a #3 near the edge but I think there was a #2 placement near the tree.

Brought double set of cams (from 0.3 - 3). Such a fun outing. Highly recommend. Pitch 1 (seconded): easy scramble through some bushes Pitch 2 (lead): more protection than the description suggests Pitch 3 (seconded): 1 bouldery move to start (crux pitch). protectable with small cams (0.3 - 0.4) Pitch 4 (lead): unique ramp to finish. loads of protection. easy peasy

Memorable climbing all the way. Quite run out and scary in a few places on P2. First climb after the COVID-19 imposed break, so perhaps felt a bit harder and scarier than it should, or maybe it is just a bit hard and scary. The ramp at the end is brilliant. Led P1,2,4.

Pretty classic for the position but I expected some more crack climbing. Good gear throughout and nice belay ledges. Pitch two is a touch runout but maybe that's why it's classic?

Pitch 1: Cynics United P1. Funky little twin crack system goes with wires and small & medium cams. The death block has now been removed. The belay station (two ring bolts) is laced with assortment of rocks you can choose to neutralize your second, be very careful and very still. Pitch 2: In case the historic piton fails on impact, a belay was established. Like they say 'finding gear is an art', the wizard on lead found good gear after the reachy move (the recipe now resides in the route description). Pitch 3: Bluey's own exposed version of a mini Cobra Crack minus 13 grades. Hard exposed moves lead to a good finger lock to place protection and then the 'just go for it' moment. Pitch 4: Takes you back to the Araps with more wires (medium and large) than cams, more friction than footers and more balance than strength.

Didn't find this anywhere near as enjoyable as the stars make it out to be. First pitch was heavy with vegetation, and found the climbing on the other pitches kind of bland. The final ramp was somewhat interesting.

Great climb! Cynics United first pitch is probably the trickiest. Second pitch is super run out and there’s a possum in the crack half way up it. I used #1, #.75 and a #.3 for the trad anchor at the base of pitch 3. The “ramp” at the end of pitch 4 is a real test for your nerves. Link up pitch 3 and 4 for one of the greates piches I’ve climbed in a while.

A great little trad outing, did the Cynics United start. Definitely had a few spicy bits for the grade, but fun overall. First full trad multi. Take a double rack up to #3+ wires and a few slings.

did the alternative cynics united start. overall very nice, varied climbing, but i was just too tired for the overhung sections so that i found them quite hard. was destroyed after this long weekend of climbing, but had a great time!

Very enjoyable outing, particularly via the Cynics United first pitch. Nicely sustained with a couple of intimidating-but-actually-ok sections at the start of the 2nd and 3rd pitches. Led the 1st and 3/4th pitches.

Grey rock on P1+2 a little loose, great orange rock on P3+4. P2 is a little spicy, not a lot of gear and some ledge fall potential. The crux moves off the belay on P3 are awesome! The ramp above to exit is great too. Linked P3+4 without too much drag with all pieces extended.

I was a bit concerned about the quality of the route after diving in to the wall of vegetation above the hand crack on the first pitch. (Check out Cynics United pitch 1 as an alternative in future, it's apparently clean) But pitch 2 was memorable and run-out on clean decent rock. I survived and Che got the 3rd pitch which is an exposed ripper up a monster natural line and has to be one of the best trad pitches in the mountains at the grade. A great climber's climb.

P1 was pretty average, but the rest was definitely decent. The "ramp" on the final pitch was for sure the most memorable. P1 second, P2 OS, P3/4 second.
