Absolute bullshit I have to log this as a hangdog. Was above the 4th draw and managed to rip off a bucket jug sending me sideways. Belayer is ok, hold wasn’t crucial, climb still goes. Apart from this, no takes or whips.

That in mind, the climb is still an awesome adventure. About half a dozen mantles, some spicy exposure on the arete, and an abundance of jugs (-1 jug from today)

Couldn't get that last move from the shitty sloper across to the jug, ran out of time and was trying in the dark! My idea is to move right earlier and skip the sloper, for next time, some classic moves through awesome pockets

For some reason I was expecting an easy first pitch then a harder second pitch, but it's the other way around for this version. The bit shared with VD totally threw me (something something chalk, spooge, loose shoes, surprise sport climbing).

low key groundfall from slipping just before reaching the carrot, on wet feet and soapy hands. got back on but had to aid past the carrot eventually, lowered off the next break for rope gun Nat to take over.

Will definitely come back under better conditions. The lesson of the day was that I really really need to refill my chalk bag.

This climb is a lot of fun with the exposure, but had to rest on a few of the higher draws due to pump. Felt harder than a 19 to me, even without considering the length of the route.

One of the best climbs around once you get past the first two bolts. Harder than a 19 down below. Too long for me for an onsight attempt.

Proof that regardless of how much or long you've been climbing, there will always be times when your inner gumby comes out to play. Originally to be our climb out we decided the second was to carry the packs (one inside the other) and that I was going to try and link both pitches. Being the end of the day, I got really pumped and so I had to rest at the crux (note this route has some cost effective bolting as well). I then decided that there was too much rope stretch to properly protect the start of the second pitch (quite weird bolt locations) and so we decided to do it as the intended two pitches.

Then we struggled to fit the bags inside one another (should've checked that before we began, ROOKIES!). So while Denis was doing that on the ground I decided to stick clip the first and second bolt of the next pitch to make it super quick (hot and bothered at this stage) and belay Denis through that (A super quick swung lead). Denis had finally managed to pack one inside the other but found that he couldn't look up if he was wearing his helmet (due to the huge pack) so he took that off and clipped it to the bag.

At about 1/3 height the helmet clip broke (for unknown reasons, the rock gods are being blamed) and the helmet fell to the ground (retired with much sadness). Denis lowered to retrieve it. We then decided to cut our losses and have me rap down and walk out. But of course I had stick clipped the second bolt (without a fancy purpose made stick). So I had to prussik up to the bolt, clip in hard, thread and lower back to the belay ledge.

I then threaded the anchor and threw the rope (knotted ends as I knew it was touch and go). And touch and go it was, with the ends dangling about 4m above the ground, as verified by Denis. But deciding to give it a go anyway delivered my first bout of luck for the escapade as they brought safely to the ground with rope stretch. We walked out and bought some well earned sushi and coke.

I think I have the right 21. This was really good, relaly fun and classy climbing with some sneaky beta to make it lovely for the grade instead of heinous. This whole wall looks pretty cool (if powerful).

20 Woodface Direct - with Adrian Kladnig Sport 35m Very Good
Tim Clarkson
I think this was 30m to the anchors on the big ledge (as for Woodface, you can do the final 5m with a coupld more rings through the overhang to top out - looks cool.)I had a 64m rope and we abseiled with plenty to spare to the ground from 1st anchors. Ledge is a 90 degree edge, I wouldn't lower off the 1st pitch of this one. Bring second up and abseil. Good climbing though, and licheny blank-looking slab was nowhere near as blank or licheny as it looked. Good climbing!

Last burn of the day. Found my self at full stretch through the crux and unable to get my feet up, there is probably a footer i missed, or i just need to be taller. Pulled through on the draw in the cheater bolt, the rest climbed nicely (eventually) but it's sharp!

Great climb, harder than anticipated and put me back in my place, had hoped to stroke my ego a little and log it in two pitches as i came off exiting the belay cave with a route reading error that put my right on the line on an incredibly dirty jug, i think had it been clean it might have gone, but after the fall i found a good sequence using a LH under-cling to get back on track. I will be back for this one!
