Seoksan-am (Ami-san)

  • Grade context: US
  • Aka: 석산암

Description

Seoksan-am is located on a mountain called Ami-san 아미산. It has great views and trails for hikers. This crag was opened to the public in 2007 with nine routes. It is made of rhyolite rock, which is the volcanic equivalent of granite. Most of the routes are slab and face climbing. Seoksan-am faces south.

Approach

From Daegu 대구, take a bus to Gunwi 군위 and transfer to a local bus heading to Seoksan-ri 석산리. Get o at Gaamsamgeo-ri 가암삼거리. The mountain can be seen from across the road. There are three protruding rocks on the mountain. The crag is located on the south-side of the biggest rock. At the trailhead there is a hiking map. Follow the trail in the valley for ten minutes. Then, take the trail that branches off to the right and continue up another five minutes to reach the crag.

Descent notes

Gear 12 draws and a 60m rope. Safety The rocks are loose and sharp so a helmet is recommended. The first two routes are a bit longer than the others to top-rope and the belay for the second climber should be done at the anchors on the top of the routes. The belay station on the east side of the wall is unstable. Additional Comments Ami-san offers good ridge climbing and there are campsites available around the crag. The routes here don’t have names, but they have been numbered.
