Ascents in High Dive Gully

Didn’t realise this would be so hard. Great climbing

Took a fall on first attempt traversing out through the crux. A better hand sequence got me through on the second attempt from the thread.

Seconding James. What a line. It was going well until I arrived in the corner and surveyed the crimp rail, the steepness, and the potential swing. Had a take at the thread and then campused, inelegantly, across. So much harder than Kachoong, but absolutely mega.

Some stuck wires await the next ascenders.

Superb. Happy with how I climbed this, not as long as I was expecting. Crux moves provoke thought and commitment. Ripper. Thanks for following on this Josh.

Rain came down as I did the crux, could see the ledge was slick, but I didn't make it, slipped off just before it. Fun swing, then I was under a waterfall - the climb gets soaked in rain! Also, the slabby start was terrifying. Loved the roof moves though.

Actually unbelievable.

amazing, technical bit off the ledge leads to cruisy climbing. pumped myself out slinging the hole so the roof was a fight. super stoked. decent bit harder than kachoong

So fine so chill so BREEZY (it was in fact not fine, chill nor breezy)

Desperate

First try got spooked at the crux, called take then did the campus comfortably

Second try got majorly pumped trying to clip the piece before the campus using my hip then took a good whipper on the last move of the crux, accompanied by a comical scream

Very doable, will return!

Juggy but steep. Difficult to top rope and pre place gear

Had gear beta from Cam a while ago so, alas, can’t claim the onsight. Such a good climb!

Flash pumped during the crux setup but somehow managed to squeak out a down-climb to the fingerlocks/jam rest.

Super last route of the trip. Steep trad. Collected 68 stars on 31 routes in 7 days

Redemption, almost 10 years after I back off it due to wet holds. Felt pretty easy on Paul’s gear.

Seconding Jenga -not clean.

The grade and quality of this route is contingent on how contrived you make it -which probably also reflects the range of opinions on the grade.

The route as "officially described" is utterly nails at the grade, and super-duper contrived (essentially tackling the line of most resistance).

If you do the crux traverse 50cm lower, this is about grade 21, and makes more logicical sense.

Needless to say, I fell off the last crux move of the super-contrived version

Clean repeat. Seconding Jenga to get the gear back. Just goooood fun!

Not a good warmup I flashed pumped on the last move of the traverse on my onsight, took the whip, and broke my cam

2nd shot was a cruiiiiiiiise and just super fun. More intimidating than Kachoong, and more technical for a steep climb, but not much harde grade-wise.

Hell of a pump

After taking quite a scary fall on this climb a month ago, falling with a handful of slack out trying to clip and nearly hitting the rock behind me, it felt great to climb it today with confidence! 💪🏽

Gets the blood pumping, all gear placed on lead. Fun route.

Finally.

27 year odyssey comes to an end. Super happy to tick my hardest route ever after turning 50, albeit after building a replica in my garage.

Awesome route but super marginal for me. 4th shot today, maybe 9-10 days all up over the years ... Nearly fell off getting into Cellular - had to rest with a forearm bar at the top for a few minutes before attempting the mantle in light rain !

Happy days ... a big deal for me.

On the send go a millipede was sitting on the slopey-pinch hold! I almost blew it cause it made the hold slimey when I squished it. Hardest move (for me) was the mantle at the end!

Some amazing flowy moves in the lower half. Need to work out the final massive lunge linking in to PCL

Such cool terrain to be climbing through. I built up a lot of pump before reaching the roof, where I had a great time in a horizontal rest alternating between pinching nerves in my left arm and sacrificing skin from my right. The traverse was a little less daunting but just as gymnastic as I imagined. I definitely found this a bit harder than Kachoong - and the movement just a little more fun!
