This route is good but also contains loads of loose rock and is quite runnout, even with a rack. You want to be solid at the grade and the gear worth bringing on this to place would be a 1, .5, .2 and/or a .1.

Up to the cave is tricky for 13, especially down low (on the bolts).
Wander right over to the corner on the ledge about 10m up - we linked P1 and 2, belaying off of the double rings in the cave. Round the outside the cave was good, this is when it started feeling like less 14/15 and more 13! Nice crack and face holds. One size 4 took me most of the way up this pitch.

Ok, this felt like grade 12-14... Was pretty sandy and little to no pro at top. Cool start though. Worth doing, but don't expect grade 6. It's much harder than the previous two pitches. | 73m, 6 | ★★ Very Good
Better than expected! The approach is almost the same for DRP, and an adventure in itself. In Shandy the scramble out after P2 is also another adventure! We did the first 3 pitches, absailed down back to the top of 2 and scrambled out left. Gave P4 (or 3b as per book) a miss given the warnings here in The Crag. Also looked pretty weird to get into the chimney — would have been a challenge!

After the bizarre are scramble and traverse (we did it unroped), we found the start at a chimney. The bolt looked quite high but the chimney looked safe. Certainly an interesting slaby move on crimps near the old carrot. Enjoyed this last little bit. | 130m | ★★★ Classic
What an adventure to just get to the line. Traverse around into the slot is pretty cool and exposed. We roped up for it. Reminds me of an easy squeeze test.
Doing this in a party of 4 takes a good deal of time.
Overall I think the exposure and journey on this route might have added a grade to it. |

Really good route nice jugging for P1 just sandbagged myself by making a right angle in the gear near the top, belayed from carrots off to the left. P2 has one hard layback section and might be a grade or so harder, Justin realised the left his phone at the base of the climb while having a snack at the bealy for P3. P3 was a nice boulder to start, again probably sandbagged for 13 but fine either way clipping an old piton on the way to the chimney, the chimney was super cool i just wish i had been carrying less gear, ended up only placing a 5 a nut and another small cam near the top. A 6 would have been nice on P2

Pitch was wet and slimy. Mega effort from Aaron to get it done with no crack gloves or tape, sliding out of the crack with bloodied hands. I somehow stayed on, all credit to the crack gloves. A few odd pieces, then 4x #2 camalots in a row, then all #3's to the belay.
4
lead by
Lee Cujes
The hardest I've worked for a pitch of climbing in a long time. I was peaking. Admittedly it was wet, but even in the dry I would have struggled. Cracks are not my thing, and there's no escape on this pitch. For me personally, this was only slightly easier (1 grade?) than the crux pitch. I used 6x #3 camalots, 2x equivalent-sized hexes, 2x #4 camalots and this was only just enough for my level of comfort (4m+ runouts). You need all the big gear to adequately protect the pitch - you cannot supplement with anything smaller anywhere on the pitch. If I did it again (I never will) I would take 10-12 #3 camalots. A little safety note on the top-out: After clipping some carrots to stand on a ledge with a final 5m headwall to finish. This is protected by one carrot. If you only clipped this carrot (like me) and then fell on last moves topping out, the rope wouldn't even have a chance to take up before you broke both legs on the flat ledge below. Instead, there is a cam slot that is hard to see as it's in your handhold above your head. Roughly #1 camalot size. Use it! (I would strongly advocate the addition of a final bolt to mitigate a potential future catastrophe - you have just clipped 4 or 5 in a row, after all) | 190m | Average
Cracks are hard.

Super fun adventure, ridiculous 360° views. Fixed a bunch of ropes and TSR'd basically everything. That turned out to be wise! You could easily knock a block onto your rope or belayer.
Bring 3 ropes, and fix pitches 2 and 6 to TRS for safety reasons. For example, we tied the top rope into a cam below the lip of pitch 6 so there would be no abrasion if a hold blew and someone fell, which is exactly what happened. Skip P1 and walk off towards Ruined Castle, turn around then scramble back up the centre of the ridge instead. More fun. Would lead pitches 3-5 (easy runouts, rusty carrots on P3). Scenic choss fest with pockets of fun climbing, not everyone's cup of tea. |

Very short laybacking section on P2 and early in P3. Both are a little tricky and perhaps difficult to place gear whilst in those areas. Did as 2 pitches
