Ascents of Bairds Effort

Needed to figure out the crux so I hung for a bit. The rest went! Very cool!

after entering full buns mode while on belay, i did a sickly aid second. this was the spark of a week of illness for me bleeehhh

wasn't planning on leading this again but very glad i did. nearly almost got spanked again! a lot of strenuous stances placing bomber nuts. classic bluies cracks making me think cams are great until you place them, wiggle them, they umbrella, they get stuck, i cry, i tremble, i pump out, i place a nut. However, for a change of pace, i actaully didn't take and got it done so that's nice. Thanks Mr. Buns for the patient belay and even more patient (and seemingly awful and feverish) seconding experience.

for the record (and really just for Tommy Buns) - logging the red point but the first move was protected by a nut I placed from the ground. New rule for me: if i can place the first piece from the ground sans stick, its still a red point. A nice new kind rule to make me enjoy climbing a little more and help me put less pressure on myself - thanks for the reminder Tom that climbing is meant to be fun.

Really great climbing, a lot of variety between the bouldery start, thin hands, a couple of crimps and some good fingerlocks. Plenty of pro, but some pretty strenuous positions to place it in.

Very very good, varied crack climbing. I definitely preferred this over Interstate 31.

Had a rip-snorter of a time on this route. The first time we had used the nuts all day and boy george were they good! Got pretty pumped because I just couldn't keep climbing past all the good placements. Should be more popular

Blimey, this 19 needed every technique I know. First crux was the bouldery start, 2nd crux was a big move up the thin crack from a scoop past a thin sidepully pod thing in the crack (there is an intermediate crimp on the L of the crack and just enough feet to get to the jugs, I might have used a fingerlock or something weird too?). Went up the arete mostly on the right once the crack ended.

Gear: couple of solid nuts (one to protect the start), and almost all of a double rack .4–3. Pro around the 2nd crux is in the .3–.5 range. The final arete has some #1/#2 horizontals that are worth extending. I belayed off the tree since we already had an anchor set up there, but there are rings too.

after flailing around on gentleman's, i thought this would be a sure fire send. boy was i wrong. but has a few more jugs and those were welcome. really feels like a baby gentleman's. even taking into account its position on the cliff! the finger crack requires way fewer ringlocks though so theres that to look forward/dread, depending on your lifestyle/deathstyle.
