Very cool climb, linked p1 and p2 but not p3 and p4, the cave on top of p3 was too good to not belay from there. Plenty of gear placement, and in the shade in summer (we started at 3pm)

One of the coolest climbs I've ever done. Mega exposure on the overhang. Didn't seem sandbagged like others have stated, feels on par with grades around Mt Piddington. Bomber gear all the way

What a fun day out! Enjoyed the first pitch and found it very adventurous. Between a sketchy first move, trees, chimney and crack it was engaging and varied. My climbing partner told me they'd read a crag entry saying we'd need big gear for the anchor... I listen to this and saved some Cams that would have been useful only to build the anchor with small gear! Bomber anchor and an awesome spot to belay as we linked the first two pitches. By the time I started seconding the next pitch I got quite hangry... not good while climbing. First part of the next pitch I found engaging and a stuck nut made things interesting. Backpack was getting in the way as I was trying to get out the nut but I had a mega knee bar/jam while i reevaluate life as you do mid pitch. I tried to take the backpack off and attach it to my harnesses but made matters worse... in this process a totem went flying off the cliff, it somehow survived. Once I got past this section I was able to enjoy the rest of the pitch. Overall an awesome climb and worth the stars!

Felt like the first pitch was the money pitch. 3rd only really had a short section that was good before the average stuff at the top. Linked 1/2, 3/4 and then a bit of a walk off at the top choss. Took a double rack of cams but had plenty of everything left over. Was good for the grade but not sure it deserves an ultra classic. Flake crack and Interstate are way better.

Great climb. Super stoked to lead this whole thing! Tests a range of skills, including trusting trees, a short chimney, some lovely hand jams. All the belay points were also quality destinations for taking in the view.

The team arrived at fuck knows o'clock and i headed up to the worlds least inspiring looking tat to belay the double pitch for steve, who then pointed out the dbb off to the left. Steve went on windbreak for the money pitch. Said it was tough for 17.. i reasoned with him that this route was fa'd by the guy who made the grades and therefore must be entirely accurate. Turns out 'grade inflation': a phenomenon by which climbers just arent as fkn hard these days, explains the fact that the overhung corner sequence felt closer to 19. The misunderstanding of the day took place on this pitch where I was hacking at a cam mid crux that i thought steve overcammed, couldnt get it, shouted down to chris and ciaran to have a go. Both of them dedicated some solid time and ciaran eventually freed it with a fight that cost him much hand skin. He pulled it triumphantly from his harness at the end of the route and held it out to steve. Steve didnt recognise it. Turns out some other party got it stuck. Now ciaran owns 1 beat up cam that he can use as a nut sometime! Steve and I spent about an hour and 15 sitting in the overhung scoop belay cave up top just having yarns about anything that came to mind.. what a unique and incredible geological feature with full valley view and shade! Barramundi and beer back at the house after, good shout there

Tremendous line all on bomber gear up the corner. Lived upto the hype nice and comfy belays aswell. Went into the shade by 3pm aswell 🙌.

Awesome! Would definitely link pitch 1/2 next time as pitch 2 isn’t very long. Linked 3/4. Pretty much a sport route with all the gear that’s stuck in this climb!

Finally got back to do the final pitch clean. Still a little strenous to be honest. But it went down without too much fuss. The first two pitches remain some of the best introductory jam climbing in the mountains, with good jams surrounded by good feet and some jugs. A great place to learn, and the top pitch is a great test at the grade.

don't be discouraged by some of the comments below. It is a pretty good and very safe climb with reasonable rock quality and good gear. It's best to belay on the ledge above the bird poo as the description suggest - plenty of gear options. Grade wise the crux moves are consistent with other Bluyes trad 17s with rest of the climb being easier, just don't approach it with a 'sport grade 17 leader' mindset. Watch rope drag if combining last two pitches.

Bit of a slow lead, I might be stronger but the crux gear hasn't got any thicker than last year. Thought I'd given myself more drag than other times so stopped after P3, it's a really cool cave to belay in, shame P4 is so short that it seems a bit pointless.

Awesome day out, definitely a blueys classic, linked pitch 1 & 2 drag wasnt too bad. Pitch 3 is ever so slightly harder than 1&2, mostly because the rock quality on pitch 3 is questionable

I agree with other comments saying this route is over rated and under graded. It is a historical classic and still worth climbing but I wouldn't go out of my way.

After climbing stellar lines at the grade both at Araps and Mt Buffalo, this route is possibly the crappiest, undergraded most horrendous, thrutchy sandbagged grade 17 I've done in my entire climbing career. The rock in many places is choss, alot of the gear is crap, the suggestion of moving the belay up by 2m at the end of pitch 2 would be great if it actually had good gear, pitch 3 could be graded 20 and I wouldn't bat an eye. My personal opinion? Zero stars. Think I'll stick to bolted lines in the Blueys as it seems many trad lines here are complete choss piles compared with other beautiful Trad climbing areas. 2 hours of my life I'll never get back.

mega route for the grade. A few tough moments and fun exposure but got through it after trusting my jams. Definitely go to the highest point of the cave for the belay and don't spend 30 minutes struggling with cordalette a bit lower down :p

man what cool climb! pitch 3 is one of the funnest pitches ive lead at the grade. the belay ledges for pitch 1 and 3 are fairly average, and having spent a fair bit of time at them in a party of 3, would probs link 1+2 and 3+4 if i did it again

Linked pitches 1/2 and 3/4 again. Lead it all with no issues this time being comfy jamming fingers for a move probably made the difference Tried rapping off (using the Say Cheese midway anchors) instead of walking, but the first rope wouldn't pull, ended up waiting for the next party to finish and clear it so I'm not sure what it was stuck on or if it was just tons of drag. If it wasn't for that it's a more fun way down.

Awesome climb!! Luisas first multipitch. I Lead every pitch. Old school 17crux was super tough but I got through it clean. Didn't link any pitches because I didn't have enough cams in the right size. Definitely would recommend doubles of .75 1s and 2s. Unfortunately we got a no 6 trango cam superstuck on P2. On the upside it will make for a bomber fixed piece for future climbers! Be careful as there is a falcon nesting next to the big belay ledge after P2. Didn't seem to happy with us being there.

Fun and varied climbing. Third pitch is the money pitch, interesting climbing around a flaring crack with spaced, but good gear. Pretty solid crux pitch for 17. Climbed in two pitches, linking 1/2 and 3/4.

Used a lot of energy holding myself jammed into weird positions at the crux and eventually had a rest. I was super intimidated about doing this climb but found the first pitches very pleasant, having their tricky moments interspersed with easier climbing. Think I was lulled into a false sense of security and then pitch 3 was much more sustained! Linked pitches 1&2 and 3&4, would probably stop after 3 next time if wanting to keep an eye on the second.

Such a nice morning out. I can see why this is a bit of a classic. Excellent climbing in a beautiful spot. The nesting falcons on the next buttress kept us company. Maybe a good idea to stay off the walls from here to wild is the wind until the end of the nesting season. Linked p1&2 and 3&4

Starting moves weren't kind to my already-inflamed R shoulder - the tree getting in the way doesn't help either Linked P1 and P2, to belay at the higher suggested ledge. With a double rack it's worth saving a couple of cams #2 and larger for the anchor. Trying to build one with the small gear I had left wasn't ideal. Did P3 in more of a dihedral style, rather than trying to finger-lock the crack. Sean linked P3&P4, which apparently added in a bunch of rope drag at the end. Since P4 is just a few metres of walking across dubious ironstone plates, Sean's suggestion of a more direct finish to the highline anchors is a good one.
