Remembering how to use a rope on the most iconic 19 in Northern Tas

Not physically or mentally taxing, but hard in a strange way. At the crux, before you know it, you’re hanging in your harness. You get peeled off the top like a bug on a windshield. Was some sick climbing though.

10/10 a good time.

I think it could be good if you contrive it and designate holds that are in and those that are out? It's enjoyable as a compression arete without the starting feet on the left or the face holds near the anchor, but then it's a far cry from 19 like that .

I think being told you can not onsite it, makes you really want to. First lead climb in 7 years!

Good holds the whole way

The unonsightable gorge climb! possibly because I had heard about every move on this climb for the last few months, followed the line of least resistance and managed to not have to do much climbing before the 3rd bolt? Cool moves at the top. Ran another lap afterwards and stayed on the main face it was pleasant, a touch soft at 19 if taking into account the other 19's in the gorge probably way harder for those shorter than myself. However bleak this might sound, The Great Willy is well bolted and a worthy addition to the moderate sport climbing in Launceston!

Turns out this route was impossible to onsight. Between Belaying Kris on his onsight and being heavilly sprayed useless beta by Aidan for months I was whelmed (neither under or over) to have climbed this route. The bolting is very conservative which was much needed on a low grade sport route in the gorge and I would say it is significantly easier than the other 19 sport routes in the area (The Constable, Out Of Date Route, Crucifix, Fighting the Authorities). Well done Aidan, Nick and crew, I'll be recommending this as a beginner lead climb!

Loved the process on this one. From Nick spotting it to doing toprope laps to check it out. Making U-bolts and bolting at night added to the experience. Nice to put the cherry on top today with a First Ascent
