Ascents in University Buttress

Desperate - felt at least 26. Nice line though and one to come back for.

Really fun moves around the bulges. Had to give it a whirl after meeting the guys who put it up earlier that same day. Thanks a mil legends.

Cold temps made for some quick decisions re bolt placements. Think we got it pretty right. Needs some more cleaning down low. Unusually 24 hours after bolting and climbing, the routes beens repeated and entered into the crag! Cheers Nick!

Harder than both its neighbours.

Not quite as nice/consistent as the others, but an interesting crux that continues a bit longer than you expect. Tricky feet. One fall at the last bolt.

Hold has come off after the roof. Warning BETA: This has created a new crux, possible to navigate by heading left from under the roof and pinching the flake/arete, seems pretty burly now. Bolting is still fine and felt safe to me, suspect it's improved the quality/fun of the climb and also pushed it up a few grades (23?). Ran short of time for a send so can't confirm

New beta works well, crux is pretty hefty now, bolting is fine, probably only 22 but the retrobolter has badgered me into giving it 23,

Contrived garbage

I did a few overhanging layback type moves off the arete with smeary/jamby feet. This keeps your body position still pretty inline with the original bolt so its position seems fine. By the time you're above the bolt you're back onto the original line anyway. About grade 21 I think. But only for this one sequence.

We went direct via some great bouldery moves. I couldn’t reach the way Dave did to a good hold way right, but managed to figure out a tough way whereby I thought my heel would snap if I fell, so did it on TR clean after two lead goes and aiding through crux on first go. Going direct seemed more 24 at my height. The flake to the right of the third bolt rocks and although keyed in at the moment may loosen or come out if someone yarded on it. We actually liked it, includes staying on face past 3 Rd bolt. Dave also did the arete finish.

was confused by the roof, and screwed myself by attempting it on the R, which felt really really hard. i now see this is the hard way. tried direct through the roof a few times too, but couldn't work it out either. seems powerful, might come back more clued in to the beta.

Went right. Climb goes left & can confirm it’s safe to whip that way too. Fun enough

Had a tr with Roger while he prepped. Pumped off the last hold!

Seconded Roger on the FA. Route feels really exposed.

With Hugh. P1 - Onsight (The money pitch. Slightly steep, with spaced and fiddly gear -but adequately protected-, consisting of a nice mix of slightly intimidating face, arete and crack climbing.); P2 - Clean 2nd (about grade 19. Dirty, sharp and thrutchy, with moments of funkiness. Probably better to use the bolts on the sport climb to the left to rap off after P1.) As the guide says: with small cams (and some creativity) this is not the death route it once was. Great!

Flamed out on the onsight. Been a while since I've climbed a route longer than 15m. I found it tough to read and hard to find a rest on. Great moves, would be 2 star, but feels a bit squeezed between the other routes.

Chasing the shade..ripper route but silly choice for first thing in the morn! Super pumpy & sustained with little chance for rest to break it up. Nice one.

Cleaning up the rests slowly. Felt way better second burn. Also found a couple of micro shake outs in some unlikely places. Still pretty go'ey..!

Puuuumpy! Had to have a rest where it started endlessly laybacking. Great route.

Cruisy up to the crux, which makes you stop and think, and a pumpy finish. Great

Didnt spot an important hold around the left arete at the crux. Awesome on-sight by Ben. He didnt spot the hold around left either, but compensated by being bloody strong!

Found the layback up the arete (crux) on this HARD for the grade, maybe i missed something. Great climbing.

Bloody oath... 21 going on 23... the crux of this thing is the closest I've come to falling off an arete below gr25 this trip. Quite sustained with lots of hard moves, but a very pronounced and HARD crux. Unlike most Organ Pipes aretes, this one is all slopers, baby. Leave those crimping fingers at home.

Bailed off one of the unnecessary bolts. Sticking to the off-width (rather than bridging) might bring the grade down, I'm not sure though. Still pretty burly.
