Ascents of Split Column

had to get rid of my hangover in this one, haha. Messed up the offwidth facing the wrong way

Full value for the grade but not quite classic to me. Based on the guidebook description, I was honestly surprised by the last 1/3 of the route being an offwidth. I spent a long while trying to find some gear before committing up that section. A 5 & 6 would probably be useful.

Well, this had it all. Full range emotions for me on this one. Happy to get through the pumpy start and the thin traverse. Got established in the hand crack then onto the ledge above with one hang. Interesting varied climbing from here to the last ledge below the off-width proper using a #5 to good effect to this point. #6 getting to its limit around here. Had a small ledge fall when a foot slipped off on grit making some face moves up from here. Placed an rp at the next stance, faffed around for ages while looking at the off-width above and the lack of gear... Then bailed I'll be back...

Wowsa! This route has it all. Great variety of crack climbing with a funky traverse inbetween. That run out wide finish had me a little peaked out though I must admit...

Great climbing. flared hands leading to a crimpy traverse, then easy crack section leading to the crux - getting into the offwidth. protected this with a RP and a sneaky microcam. Great varied climbing.

Nice climbing, but very bold up high with no truly worthwhile pro. Not too hard though!

We did this as a 3 pitch route from the ground up. Such a fantastic route, the third pitch is probably the best I've done on the pipes and doing the first pitches just makes it all the more glorious. Hand crack at and off width section YOU BLOODY RIPPER!

We climbed all 4 pitches, rapping in and doing the last 2 would be far more enjoyable. by the time we got to the good stuff, I'd had enough.

With Nic. Was snowing before we started. Very cold fingers. Lots of offwidth.

Pumped out on jam crack. Boo!

Hard start with hand and finger crack, then traverse to easier ground. Second pitch slightly easier. 2 rests first pitch, 1 rest second pitch
