Ascents in Orroral area as Hang dog

Got super close on the Crux second go today, no dice though. The upper climb goes much easier. Stoked

If you were at Orroral Ridge or in the valley on this day, and heard someone getting murdered in the bush, it was actually me grating my body up this off-width crack. Bit of an awkward start, with a doable beginning section that I managed to climb clean. Getting through the overhang/squeeze section is what made me lose my shit. Once I fought my way through that after nearly giving up, the top-out was surprisingly pleasant.

This climb is well-protected, which is the only way I got through it. There are double bolts and a chain at the top with a comfortable ledge/bench seat for belaying. Great views of the valley at the top.

Couple of laps on TR, 1 sit. Close. There's now double ring bolts at the top, makes lowering off a dream.

Tips were in the freezer today 🥶

Im back and this things still hard but good progress, got the crux clean and punted after. Will be back tmrw for a hopefull toprope send. Also considering how quick I got that 26 at arapiles I reckon this thing is more than 1 grade harder

Need to focus on running for UTA100km. Nice to feel some closure today empty handed. It’ll always be there! 23 attempts total over 10days, so far best go I one sit it on red point. Psyched to have the beans for this thing without any time spent in a climbing gym or on a hang board, just running trails and climbing cracks!

Keen to come back in The future. Seems more like a 27-28 IMO compared to all other trad routes I’ve done around Aus.

Got the belay send for Dave! Conditions were on! Felt the best it's ever felt, dialed the footwork and got v close to 1 sit!

2 attempts. Felt great, through Crux on 1st. 2nd go through to final rest. Stoked!

Fluffed the crux for the onsight, didn't have the fight in me today!

Nice climbing up to some solid RPs before a committing topout. took a few goes to sort the beta out. Tips bleeding, decided to save it for another day, Dave got the team ascent!

Good to get back to this classic! The track is pretty wild, we put a cairn at the rough spot to turn off (abit N of the north mushroom rock turnoff) 300m downhill due SW gets you there. Or 150m down from hotwired. GPS: 35.598353° S 148.942927° E

Made it through crux, centre break and beyond! Getting closer, Psych is high.

1 attempt. Worked the moves somewhat averagely, so an aid back clean to finish a top day off.

My knee locked up halfway up the climb, so I sat on the draw to release it and kept going. I love a good slab!

we tried soooooo hard to set up a toprope in the right spot to do this but its really tricky we coulda fixed it but it was getting dark. also there is at least one blatently chipped hold and maybe more

Got all the beta sorted now it’s dried up, keen to give this some solid attempts!

Last time I (or possibly anyone) will do this route. After having a few goes on it, I pulled past the second bolt and took a regulation fall. The dogbone of my draw on that bolt had rubbed sufficiently on the rounded edge just below the bolt that when I fell it snapped. The bolt below that then pinged off the wall, and I fell nearly 10 metres. Fortunately I bounced off my heroic belayer's shoulders and slammed into some rocks. This accident could very easily have been a lot worse.

The nature of the bolting on this route lends itself to either the rope or the quickdraws rubbing against the coarse rock. There is no way to protect this route without the potential for large swings that grind your life-saving equipment against jagged edges.

I would suggest taking extreme caution to protect your draws and rope before trying this route. Extending the draws mitigates the rope drag on the edge, but you should also consider a protective material between the dogbone and the rock.

You will also need to replace the first bolt, due to its rapid departure from the wall.

The flake at the 3rd bolt is very ready to explode. Probably not worth it. There is a bail biner on the 3rd bolt
