Ascents of Czech Mate

Hard start. I eventually pulled on the draw to get going. Clipping the 4th draw is scary

Not a fan of how this is bolted but this climb has a dynamic start and after securing that 4th clip it is a fun crux problem that is a good mix of technique and strength.

Surprisingly good warm up.

Balancey crux, went right and came out above anchors- unsure of this ending

Great mixture of different types of climbing. Big jugs and long but easy moves at the start, then a mantle, then delicate balancy crux, and a bit of slab with good crimps to finish. The crux is all about knowing a couple of key holds, like most of the time I guess

I would lie if I said that I was close to getting this, as I am still getting shut down ('check mated'?) in the crux. You need great balance and profound faith to get to the crimps above the fourth bolt. Hopefully soon... But I am proud to have clipped that bolt in the first place — bravest think I've done in a while... The rest of the route is straightforward.

Cleaned it

Entertaining start, nervy 4th clip, sequency climbing to get above the bulge, then straightforward finish. A few of the holds at the crux are not obvious.

Forgot where the holds are. Better try again soon while I still remember.

One day I'll onsight a 22, but it was never going to be this one. Heading around the bulge is an act of faith. One to come back to now I know where the holds are. Deserves more ascents.

Great climb! Nice moves surmount roof. Anchor is hard to spot, but where it should be.
