first ascent

We top ropped this thing. Locate it at the bottom left of the Pulpit Block. 2m of hard arete climbing stuff than doodle up the edge of the block to top. BR and tree belay on the Pulpit.

Top half very friable

Rapped down from first pitch of Third Bird and just did the second pitch. Top half was good, bottom half was awkward and dirty.

Brand newie. Still has a few loose flakes, but will "clean up with traffic". Roger did his bit towards cleaning the route by pulling of a flake, he took a whip, I managed to run far enough to avoid the flake that landed right where I had been belaying. Close! The initial trad chimney corner was horrible, but the bolted wall above was excellent, with devious route finding moving left and right following the holds between a series of fused corners. Pumped out up high.

Followed Paul on his onsight send. 1 sit after the second crux, when my forearms were on fire.

Super-psyched! It's not often I get to boast about onsighting a 35m gr25 mixed climb in Tassie! Engaging crack climbing for 15m on gear (at about grade 23) with some involved and improbable gear-protected moves. Then an outlandish fridge-hugging sequence past a square-cut rooflet and into technical face climbing (with a few token arete slaps) for the remaining 20m of climbing. Perhaps not too tough for the grade but with no chalk on it, and some wet holds, I'll take it!

Gear in. Cool and weird.

Amazing route. Lead with a handful of rests after Kim put the gear in. Will be back!

Such a good route, the gear protected start is great in its own right, and then the wild fridge hugging, knee-barring head wall is such a pleasure! Pretty psyched to have such a proud line as my first 25 onsight, highly reccomend!

Took my time finding decent gear through the middle. Three flake was a bit weird. May have been better to run it out a bit instead!

Top roped off the DN anchors. Sussed some Gear and moves. Keen to give it a lead

Fought so hard for the pure onsight and came so close, but finally fell at the last bolt amidst a sea of lichen, dirt and broken holds. Heh, maybe 1 star at most, this thing is too dirty and friable to be a 3-star route, and the 30m death scramble to get to it doesn't help. The trad start isnt too bad, and there are some genuinely fun (and desperate) arete and face moves... but the bad outweighs the good on this.

Pretty good 24 climbing to hard sloper crux at second last bolt.

Couldnt work out the crux, so pulled on a bolt. Genius!

No cheaty pulling on bolts this time! Pretty crimpy through the crux.

As one big pitch via CSTS. Finished up the last few metres of CSTS to create a harder arete finish (rather than the doddly original finish). Not a classic, but enjoyable enough climbing (makes a good warmup) with an interesting crux section up a box-groove and overlap.
