One of the most secluded and beautiful climbing areas in WA.
The climbing is quite short, however, there are some amazing crack climbs, as well as face and slab climbing. A 25 m rope, quickdraws and a set of nuts and cams are required.
Climbing and camping is located in a wilderness area. National Park rangers request you notify them prior and at completion of trip
Walk, 2WD & 4WD: Follow the Western Highway west from Walpole for 7 km before turning left onto Tinglewood Road. Continue to the car park for the Bibbulum Trail. Park here as there is no other access available, even for 4WDs. Take the trail that goes downhill over the suspension bridge across Deep River. Continue along trail for 1.5 to 2 hours, until you reach a dieback shoe cleaning station. DO NOT follow Bibbulum track to the right, but instead continue along the former 4WD track for another 30 - 40 minutes until you reach a turn off with a 'Thompon's Cove' sign pointing left. Walk down the trail, past the Peppermints Camp, and down to the beach. Trail isn't obvious.
From the beach, continue west along the rocky shoreline to a set of large 5-10 m high boulders with a distinct rocky path between them. Climb this slope then turn right, off the rocks and into the low scrub, moving parallel to the rocks. Follow this for 80-100 m until you reach a large boulder with a smaller boulder on top. Climb down here back onto the rocks and continue west to find the climbs.
On your way back, please add to the cairns between the crag and the beach as the current trail is indistinct. Avoid going straight up or down vegetated hillsides, instead go up in a zig zag pattern. The terrain is steep and the soil shallow so erosion is a big risk. Keeping to one path will help ease our impact.
Campsites can be found at Thompson's Cove. There is a freshwater stream and plenty of whiting swimming in the water.
Please adhere to minimal impact camping practices. Go to the toilet at least 50m from the stream and dig a hole for your deposit and toilet paper. Bring a rubbish bag so you can carry all your rubbish away with you.
Did you know that you can create an account to record, track and share your climbing ascents? Thousands of climbers are already doing this.
