V4 | Flagship Right SDS | |||||
V4 | The Daily Grind SDS | |||||
V2 | Body Drop SDS (Body Drop) | 3m
#2
Somehow felt easier than 'Lake Warm-up SDS' (V0). Probably helped that I'd inspected the holds. |
V0 | Lake Warm-up SDS (Lake Warm-up) | 3m
#1
A struggle today. |
Fri 25th Jun 2021 - Eagle's Nest
The Back Slabs | ||||||
5.7 | ★ Sliding Board | 4m | ||||
Rested once, having tried to use only the left crack.
5.7 | ★ Sliding Board | 4m | ||||
Clean top rope solo on second attempt. Didn't try to eliminate right crack.
5.8 | Foxhole | 4m | ||||
Top rope solo onsight
Looks protectable on lead. |

Sun 6th Jun 2021 - Crystal Crescent
IMAX Area | ||||||
V0 | Traverse into Easy SDS | 2m
V0- | Heffalump Left SDS | 4m
V4 | ★ Whale Snatch | 4m | ||||
Went first try after changing to climbing shoes and putting the pad down. Frightened some hikers popping over the lip.
Standing jump start as the landing was a bit slippery, didn't want to do a running jump. Very morpho and probably ungradable. I'll log this ascent thecrag's V4 for now, but only because I don't know what it should be. |
V0 | Easy | 2m | ||||
Did a sit start.
V5 | Crank SDS (Crank) | |||||
Nice crimpy moves on the overhang.
V1 | Iron Lung SDS (Iron Lung) | 3m
Couldn't do the first move.
V2 V1 | Cyclops | 2m | ||||
I did a crouch start at the quartz crystal, not sitting lower down.
Then single move to get left hand to the lip before mantling. Found V1 for this beta online, but that feels very stiff. V3 sounds more believable to me, so logged as V2. |
V1 | Cyclops | 2m | ||||
V1 | Barehug | 4m | ||||
V0 | ★★ LA Smoked | 3m | ||||
V0 | Easier SDS | 2m | ||||
Thin hands for me. Feel like my jams improved a lot while working this out.
V0 | Easier SDS | 2m | ||||
V2 | ★★ Iron Cross SDS (Iron Cross) | 3m | ★★ Very Good
Fun. Easy moves to start, reachy middle, top out.
V0 | No Pants Party | 4m | Average
Crack was very wet, so didn't try to jam.
V1 | ★★ LA Burn SDS (LA Burn) | ★ Good
Nice rising traverse.
V3 | Twin Cracks Left | 4m | ||||
The crack was dripping wet, but some holds were positive enough that it didn't matter.
V4 | ★ Whale Snatch | 4m | ||||
Took a few tries to stick the jump start. Broke a toenail accidently kicking the wall. Then couldn't finish as I was in running shoes.
Fri 28th May 2021 - Land of Confusion
The Strip | ||||||
V2 | ★★ Voices In My Head | 4m | ★★ Very Good
This was a fun one. Starts on a jug, slopers, then more jugs.
V2 | ★★ One Shot Deal | 3m | ★★ Very Good
Sloppy, but onsight.
I did a sit start. Guide is ambiguous on whether that's required. |
V0 | Mr Spank SDS (Mr Spank) | 2m
V1 | Greed SDS (Greed) | 4m | ||||
Couldn't work out body position to get off ramp.
V0 | ★ One | 1m | ★ Good | |||
One move and a lichen mantle.
V1 | Skrunch | 3m | Don't Bother

The Asteroids Soleil Boulder
V2 | Le Pistole Spatial | 3m
Thought I'd do one more to end the day. Nope.
V3 | Le Rendez-Vous Galant | 3m
End of the session, but felt stronger than my first time on it.
V4 | Ex-Cowboy | 4m | ||||
Pretty close. Worked out until skin was almost gone, around 20 goes?
Just a single pad. Stacking would feel like cheating. |
V2 | Le Pistole Spatial | 3m
Felt easy.
Contact strength much improved from first time. |
Wed 26th May 2021 - Polly's Cove

V0 | ★★ The Banana Holder | |||||
Middle was wet. Came off.
V0 | ★★ The Banana Holder | |||||
V3 | Straddle Struggle SDS (Straddle Struggle) | 3m
Can't find a good left hand to start.
V0 | Poultry | |||||
V3 | Jam Crack | 5m | ||||
Bailed half way up. Probably past the crux, but wasn't feeling it. Especially looking down to see the wind taking away the pad.

V1 | ★★ Low Traverse | |||||
V0 | ★ Climb the Arete SDS | Average
V3 | The Cure SDS | Average | ||||
Pulling onto the sit start was a struggle today.
Doesn't feel soft like the other day. Probably some combination of heat and yesterday's vaccination. |

V0 | High Traverse SDS | Don't Bother

V3 | Monoculture SDS | Average
Crux is first move.
V3 | The Cure SDS | Average | ||||
Went for the wrong hand on onsight attempt. Should have had it.
Felt soft for V3, but more my style than the granite I've mostly been on lately. |
Thu 20th May 2021 - Point Pleasant Park
Pine Tree Boulder | ||||||
V2 | ★ Martello SDS | ★ Good | ||||
Repeat more gracefully
V2 | ★ Easy Does It SDS | ★ Good
V2 | ★ Martello SDS | ★ Good | ||||
Took a couple tries to get the kneebar solid and another couple to move from there. Nice couple moves!
V0 | Pine Tree SDS | |||||
Not sure where the intended line was, but did something V0ish
Sun 16th May 2021 - The Lorax
Main Wall | ||||||
5.4 5.4 PG | No Cause for Alarm | 7m
First time leading it, but I rehearsed the gear on TRS a while back.
Easy.
5.4 5.4 PG | No Cause for Alarm | 7m
Lead again with all different gear. The bottom protects very well, the top is trickier to protect but ~5.2.
5.7 | The Onceler | 5m | ||||
Guidebook says top rope only, but it's probably ok to lead on gear. The bottom has a nice, slightly flaring crack. Top has sparse pro but very easy climbing.
5.5 | Someone Like You | 7m | ||||
5.8 | ★ Speak for the Tree | 5m | ★ Good
Interesting moves at the bottom. Super easy top.
Sat 15th May 2021 - Land of Confusion
The Scoop | ||||||
V5 | ★★★ Bop Gun SDS | |||||
Didn't have enough daylight to give it a good go, but this looks really good. Nice crimps widely spaced.
Sat 15th May 2021 - Land of Confusion
Area 51 | ||||||
V2 | Relocated Saliva Glands
Wasn't feeling it - tired and without a spotter.
Looks like a good one though.

Fri 14th May 2021 - Point Pleasant Park
Birch Tree Boulder | ||||||
VB- | Right Steps | 3m | Crap | |||
V0 | Birch Tree Stand (Birch Tree) | 3m
V2 | ★ Birch Tree SDS Eliminate | 3m | Average
Took a while to find the undercling pocket thing that eliminated the arete, but there were a couple fun moves.
V1 | Birch Tree SDS | 3m | Don't Bother
Meh.
Using the arete feels cheap. Eliminating the arete feels contrived, but slightly better. |
Sun 9th May 2021 - Crystal Crescent
The Main Area Sandy Landing Area
V0 | Hand Jam Crack SDS | 3m | ||||
V2 V4 | ★★ Harder Slopey Traverse | ★★ Very Good

The Main Area Low Ball Wall
V0 | The Elephant's Child | Don't Bother
V0+ V2 | The Eternal Cacophony of Whining Short People SDS | 2m
Not sure I was in the correct crack, felt a bit easy for the supposed V2 grade, more like V0. Might have been the wet one a little to the right?
V0 | Caveman SDS (Caveman) | 2m
Sit start to pull through overhang onto 'Baby Steps' .
VB- | Baby Steps | |||||
V0 | ★★ Wide Crack | 4m | ★★ Very Good
Narrow chimney, lots of fun
V0 | The Great Greasy Green Limpopo River
Sun 9th May 2021 - Crystal Crescent
The Main Area Sandy Landing Area
V2 V4 | ★★ Harder Slopey Traverse | ★ Good
Two attempts. Middle was a bit damp.
thecrag has it listed as V4, but that feels soft. More like V2/3. |
V0 | Smear and Step Up SDS | 2m
V3 | Just Another Slopey Traverse
Did all the moves.
Wet. Probably would go if the end was dry. Felt harder than 'Harder Slopey Traverse'. |
V0 | A Little Horney SDS | 3m
V0 V1 | A Lot Horney SDS | 2m | ||||
Sun 2nd May 2021 - York Reboubt
Flagpole Boulder | ||||||
V1 | ★★ Muzzle Loader SDS (Muzzle Loader) | 3m | ★★ Very Good
Top slopey crux went first try this session.
Still was more of a struggle than most V1s I've done, but felt much better than when I first tried it. Better conditions for the slopers? (Sun and cloud with a gentle breeze.) Less tired from the gym? Improvement on granite? |
