Natural rock wall (limestone) located in 44.776020, 20.432200 (44°46'33.7"N 20°25'55.9"E), in the middle of a very quiet forest, where only the sing of the birds and the climbers break the silence.

From the parking located in 44.776995, 20.435949 (44°46'37.2"N 20°26'09.4"E), follow the road straight until the first curve, where you'll see a narrow path going into the forest, follow it 'til the end, it's not longer than 150m. There's a lot of stinging nettle so it's a good idea to wear shoes and socks/trousers.

Using a car, from Belgrade you'll need a little less than 2 hours to get to Gornjak gorge (some ~130 km). First part of the road is on E75 highway for some 60 km. Exit from highway to Požarevac and continue using regional roads for another 55 km towards Petrovac city. From there, continue towards Gornjak gorge for another 15 km (to the first parking space, right across the "Kod Rajka" restaurant).

Kolima od Beograda je potrebno nešto manje od 2 sata puta do Gornjačke klisure (nekih ~130 km). Putuje se E75 autoputem nekih 60 km do izlaza za Požarevac. Odatle još 55 km magistralnim putevima do Petrovca na Mlavi. Odatle još 15 km do Gornjačke klisure (prvog parkinga kod restorana "Kod Rajka").

Located at 1.3 km from the entrance to the gore, this is the first sector in the gorge. This is a good choice for a first visit to the crag. It has a couple of routes exposed to the sun, while others are in the shade of the trees. Park a bit further beside the road (there's a widening). Sector marking is present on one of the concrete poles. Cross the narrow river to get to the rock face.

The area is located 25 km from Niš, road to Pirot, passing through Prosek and Ostrovica. After the monastery of Sv. Petka in Ostrovica and three tunnels on the main road there is the first parking climb on the left side of the road. Please be very careful because of the high frequency of traffic on this part of the road. From the parking lot to the rooftop are stairs, which pass into the path leading to the Velika Vranovica cave (2min walk). The routes are on the left and on the right side of the cave.

From Belgrade, by car, you'll need a little less than 3 hours to get to Niševac village (some 260 km). Go by E75 highway towards Niš for some 240 km. Take the exit towards Malča and follow the road signs towards Svrljig for another 17 km. Continue towards Niševac village for some 7 km.

An awesome new sector developed in the last few years by Niš locals. Climbing up to 27m with the average climbing being between 10-15m.

The front walls stay in the sun till 2 pm (Crvena ploča)or 3 pm (Cocktail party, left Zubje). The right overhanging side of Zubje facing the creek and all of Ključ goes into the shade by noon or earlier, staying much cooler than the front walls do to the close proximity of the water.

After entering the village of Niševac, the main road will split where a big red hiking/climbing sign is leaning up against a retaining wall. Go left here, then keep right at the following split with the metal telephone pole. The next intersection is a big triangle in front of a small school where you will go left, then immediately where the road turns to gravel and sort of looks like you're going down a driveway. Follow this past a few houses then turn left down the hill when you see the wooden telephone pole with a red signpost. You will pass between a house on your left and a small fenced garden on your right. Eventually you will come to the big gravel parking lot. GPS (43.463322, 22.102044). Google maps will not take you directly to this lot. Once you reach the first split, turn on the satellite map overlay to see the roads and use your current location dot to track your progress to the gravel lot. Google will try to take you left at the second split and above the crag instead of going to the actual lot.

From the marked parking spot, walk back down some 100 meters (300 feet) and then turn sharp right onto the dirt road. Follow the dirt road for some 200 meters (600 feet), the crag will appear on the right after entering the forest.

Another option is to park near the Veliki Majdan crag: (44.1732504, 20.2078044) and then walk up to this sector, some 500 meters (1700 feet) in total. This parking is wider and probably more in the shade.

Climbing on vertical to slightly overhanging limestone next to a huge monastery. Due to tree shade and orientation climbing is best in summer. Some of the routes stay wet after rain.

By road about 170 km from Valjevo. When you arrive in Ljubovija, take the main road to go to Mali Zvornik. After 10km you will see the turn off for the Monastery of St. Nikolaj Velimirović. After follow the way to the monastery where there is a large parking lot.

where to stay

Sleeping in tents near the monastery (please behave accordingly). Accommodation in the guest house of the monastery. Rooms are at a price of 600 dinars per night and double rooms - bed 1200 RSD per person. Just outside monastery are toilets and water to drink.

The sector is mostly on the sun. You can go early in the morning or late afternoon to catch some shade. Routes are not very high, so a 40m rope is enough.

Go to the monastery parking lot. The road starts at the faucet where you can get drinking water. It's a dirt road so if going by car, SUV is more suited... Walk or drive uphill until you get to the big curve where a big rock lays beside the road. That is the start of the approach path. The path is horizontal but has some minor obstacles (rocks, roots, logs). The first part of the sector you come by is a block of slabby routes and the leftmost route is called "Pleh" ". If you continue following the path, you'll arrive at the main part.

Stol mountain contains many sport, multi-pitch and trad routes and it is one of the nicest climbing places in the eastern part of Serbia.

The best months for climbing sport routes are from April until mid October (or even later, until it snows), because the sport routes are in the woods and can be climbed during hot summer days. The best months for multi-pitch and trad routes are from April until June and from late August until mid October, beginning of November, again, depending on the weather and if there is snow.

Rock is solid quality, white limestone. There are more than 60 sport routes, grades ranging from 4c to 8a+ and more than 30 multi-pitch/trad routes with grades ranging from I to VIII.

Planina Stol poseduje obilje sportskih, multi-pitch i trad smerova i jedno je od najlepših penjališta istočne Srbije.

Najbolji period za penjanje sportskih smerova je od aprila pa do sredine oktobra (a i kasnije, zavisno od vremena) jer su sportski smerovi sakriveni gustom šumom pa su konstantno u hladu. Najbolji period za penjanje multi-pitch i trad smerova je od aprila do juna i od kraja avgusta do sredine oktovra (a i kasnije, zavisno od vremena).

Stena je kvalitetni beli krečnjak. Penjalište ima preko 60 sportski smerova, ocena od 4c pa do 8a+ i više od 30 multi-pitch i trad smerova ocena od I do VIII.

From Belgrade, by car, you'll need a bit over 3 hours to get to Stol mountain (some 260 km). Go by E75 highway towards Niš for some 150 km. Take the exit towards Paraćin and follow the road signs towards Bor for another 80 km. Continue towards the village of Veliki Krivelj for some 10 km. Upon reaching the village, on the center crossroad, turn right and on the next turn, turn left and follow the road towards the village of Gornjane. After 7 km, at the crossroad, go right towards the vilage of Bučje. After 800 meters (44.167398, 22.113761) go sharp left, uphill for some 2.5 km. This roads leads directly to Stol mountain hut.

Kolima od Beograda je potrebno nešto više od 3 sata puta do Stola (nekih 260 km). Putuje se E75 autoputem nekih 150 km do izlaza za Paraćin. Pratite putokaze ka Boru još nekih 80 km. Iz Bora idite ka selu Veliki Krivelj nekih 10 km. Kada dođete do sela, na glavnoj raskrsnici skrenite desno pa onda na seldećoj raskrsnici levo ka selu Gornjane. Posle 7 km, na raskrsnici, skrenite desno ka selu Bučje. Posle samo 800 metara (44.167398, 22.113761) skrenite oštro levo uzbrdo. Posle 2.5 km doći ćete do planinarskog doma "Stol".

The stay can be in the mountain hut "Stol", price is approximately 500 RSD (4-5 EUR) per night.

There's also a private accommodation right beside the mountain hut. More info on their Facebook page.

Another option is to camp, plenty of space anywhere on the surrounding fields.

One of the first sectors bolted in Užice. The rock is not a pure limestone but rather a mix of limestone and some crystal like rock type. The rock face is such that the routes are a bit difficult to read at first. Second half of the routes (14 and up) are directly on the walkway and climbing resembles slab climbing in a way. First half of the routes (up to and including 13) require slight climb through the bushes and are more overhanging.

Jedan od prvih boltovanih sektora u Užicu. Stena je mešavina krečnjaka i nekog tipa stene kristalne strukture. Stena je takva da su smerovi malo teži za čitanje isprva. Druga polovina smerova (14. i više) su odmah na pešačkoj stazi. Penjanje podseća na penjanje ploča. Prva polovina smerova (do i uključujući 13.) su skriveni poviše pešačke staze. Prilaz je kroz obližnje rastinje, videćete čelične nogostupe. Smerovi su uglavnom previsni.

Ovo relativno novo penjalište nalazi se na kraju sela Džaveri (Poćuta) u prelepoj šumi pored rečice. Sastoji se iz 3 sektora. Smerovi su kratki ali interesantni. Svi sektori su u hladu tokom celog dana pa je ovo odlična lokacija za penjanje od proleća do jeseni.

From Belgrade, by car, you'll need a bit over 2 hours to get to Džaveri village (some 135 km away). Go by E75 highway towards Novi Sad/Šabac for some 5 km. Take the exit towards Čačak to A1 and continue for some 10 km. Take the exit towards Čačak to A2 and continue for some 55 km. Take the exit towards Lajkovac and follow the road signs to Valjevo for another 25 km. From Valjevo, follow the road signs towards Bajina Bašta. After some 25 km you'll arrive in Poćuta village. Take the first left after the main intersection and follow the road to Džaveri village. After less than 2 km you'll arrive at the first sector ('Ledenjak').

Kolima od Beograda je potrebno nešto više od 2 sata puta do sela Džaveri (nekih 135 km). Putuje se E75 autoputem ka Novom Sadu nekih 5 km do izlaza za Čačak (na A2 autoput). Posle 10 km isključite se na ka Čačku (na A1 autoput). Nakon 55 km isključite se sa autoputa ka Lajkovcu. Pratite putokaze ka Valjevu narednih 25 km. Iz Valjeva, pratite putokaze ka Bajinoj Bašti. Nakon 25 km stići ćete u selo Poćuta. Nakon glavne raskrsnice skrenite na prvi put levo ka selu Džaveri. Nakon manje od 2 km stižete na prvi sektor ('Ledenjak').

Grdoba is one of the youngest climbing areas in Serbia, which has seen great expansion in recent years, due to the proximity of Belgrade and because of the possibility of climbing throughout the year. Stena is a limestone overhang which dominates the area. So prepare well your biceps and foot technique if you plan to climb in this part of Sumadija. Due to the division of the climbs on five blocks with different orientation and the shadow of the trees, the area can be climbed all year except in the coldest winter.

Arrival is easy by car. Stena Grdoba is located in the village Poćute 25 km away from Valjevo on the main road Valjevo-Debelo Brdo-Bajina Basta. In the center of the village, turn right on a side road to the monastery Pustinja, the road passes just above the wall. You can park above the first block.
