Velika Baba is a prominent mountain in the Eastern part of the Kamnik Alps.

A longer, 700m classic route that meanders up on the Southern and South-Eastern faces of Velika Baba. It features plenty of slab and chimney climbing. The rock quality is usually very good, apart from the top few pitches, where it becomes quite loose in certain patches. It is bolted but the protection varies betwen S2 and S4. Trickier slab and chimney climbings are usually well protected but on other areas bolting can be sparse. You have to do several sharp turns in this route and scarce bolting doesn't help the navigation in these sections. It is a long route, so calculate between 6-9 hours of climbing, depending on your speed and traffic (it is a popular route, can be busy on summer weekends).

access issues

There is a 10EUR entrance fee to the parking lot as of 2022.

approach

Ravenska Kočna parking lot is about 10 min of driving away from Zgornje Jezersko. From the parking lot you take the route that takes you Kranjska koča house at Ledine. Once you get to the sections where the path becomes very steep after crossing the scree, you abandon the walking path and stay on the scree walking upwards towards East. The scree becomes a steeper and narrower gully that takes you to the starting point, which is clearly marked on the wall with a yellow circle and a dot in it. Approach should be somewhere between 1-1,5 hours

Bear in mind that from the parking lot you will find a "Velika Baba" marked route as well, but that takes you to the top of the mountain on a walking path. That is a possible descending route but not the approach!

The rock is realy good quality and the routes are mostly long, most of them longer than 30 meters. So endurance and strength will come in handy here.
