Ascents in Montagu by Wian van Zyl

Just thought I'd give this a burn on top rope while it was up. Had to take a rest halfway up. What a beast.

Incredible route, was belaying new people on the day so didn't have time for a lead send but even on top rope this was a gem.

Fun, bouldery. I think 21 if you climb along the bolts, felt 20 climbing along all the chalked up holds just to the right.

Must do if you're keen for short powerful route at grade 20/21

An easy (~17) to the upper crux (~21) of Minefield. Had to push hard at the end. Absolutely loved it. Note that I basically had to downclimb the route clean it.

A must do 18 at the crag. Slab into layback into overhang. Fun!

Oof, not sure about that grade unless you climb far left of the first two bolts. The rest is very soft.

Sad to say that I broke a foot hold at the bottom of the route I don't think its critical - I could still work the first few moves without the hold.

Nice little refresher on multi-pitch climbing

No way this is a 19 if Rapunzel is a 19. Based on the hardest section of the climb this should be a 20.

Nice and sustained.

Hand popped off of the first hold on the first try, then sent it! Bouldery and crimpy - loved it.

Went for a cheeky onsight attempt. Pumpy little climb.

Short vertical bits between ledges but the holds are cool. Lots of two and one finger pockets.

Lots of short sections from ledges. Not great for me.

Felt like a good climb. More sustained than its neighbours.

Some tricky traverse sections, very enjoyable.

Maybe a little easy for the grade, especially after the first three clips.

Sent on the second try

Been a while since I've tried this. The crux needs some good crimp strength which caught me off guard a bit on my first go.

Tried again, just not strong enough to string all the moves together yet, will try again...

Bit disappointed. Except for the start, this route is very soft for the grade. Good for pictures with the background though.

Worth climbing. Keep right of the arete

Great climb, lots of powerful pumpy moves with technical feet. Can't wait to send it.
