This basalt rock area has twenty-nine routes and was developed from 1999 to 2002. The crag is divided into two walls, one at Yaoeeumakdang Wall 야외음악당, and the other at Jisangnakwon 지상낙원, which is on the opposite side of Yaoeeumakdang 야외음악당. This crag offers powerful challenges for the grade on overhanging routes, and is easily the most popular and frequented sport climbing area on the island.

TAKE NOTE: This area, while notable for its popularity and frequency for sport climbing on the island, is dangerous. Not only are bolts sometimes stripped or moved with no notice, but the area is quite dangerous during rainy weather, and during late Fall or early Spring when the rock freezes and unfreezes with some regularity. A local climber took a major fall here in 2020 and blew out the rock around a bolt due to its instability given the freezing and unfreezing, and passed away in a nearby hospital after getting surgery on his leg from the fall. This is by no means the norm, but the risk and danger of this crag should be taken VERY SERIOUSLY before climbing here. If there is any forecast of rain before or while you plan to climb here during the rainy period on Jeju (June-September), it's recommended to postpone your climb.

Dansan-amjang

The routes at this crag are mostly easy slab on basalt rock. It is worth a visit because of the pleasant thirty-minute approach and the amazing view of the southwest side of the island. On the hiking trail, there are a few historical spots you might enjoy, including a few interesting caves.

Dansan-amjang
Area A

First 3 routes starting from the left.

5.9 Big Mountain Slab

The normal route finishes at the anchor. There is also the possibility to continue past the anchor to the top of Dansan A (bolts but very difficult).

5.10d Dansan A

First 15m are very easy. Crux is to get on the final headwall, with one tricky slab move.

5.10c Dansan B

There is the option to either stop at the anchor or continue to the top of Dansan A.

Area B

Central area

5.10a Dansan C
5.11b Crystal

One difficult move to get on the final headwall. Long runout between 1st and 2nd bolts. Recommended to stop at the first abseil anchor although it's possible to push on to the top (runout).

Area C

Bottom (left) section of the crag

5.8 Traverse

This route can be climbed either as a single pitch (around 35m) or as a two-pitch route (around 60m). The first pitch is really runout. The second pitch is a traverse towards the top of route 'Crystal'.

Eongtto Waterfall

Eongtto Waterfall

Eongtto Waterfall
Eongtto Waterfall

Anchors that we saw seemed the usual bots with webbing "death triangles". Off the boardwalks, the ground is rocky and covered with leaves, pine needles, etc. Bring good shoes and test the ground as it's easy to fall trhough the leaves. Saw a small shed snakeskin. Obviously, can't be climbed when the falls are gushing. Routes will be dirty and covered with dirt and foliage so be ready to clean the route. Mosquitos can be brutal in the wet-season.

Secret Beach

A somewhat hidden location next to Hwanguchi Beach (황우치), this area offers long stretches of low basalt rock that is perfect for traversing or setting specific problems on small parts of the wall.

Secret Beach
V3 - 8 Spicy Creature 매운 생물

A fun cave-like overhang area with a notable crack and pushy heelhooks around. There are several problems here, including potential for someone to bushwhack the top, set up an anchor and rope down for some bolt placement on the highest parts.

V0 - 6 Haenyeo Bush 해녀 덤불

The second biggest cove area, directly near the port and ship docking area (http://kko.to/pRLchd7fj). A strong traverse with sharp crimps make a splendid workout.

Hallim Open-air Sport Climbing Complex

A free, open air climbing gym located next to a school in Hallim.

Oedolgae-amjang

THIS SPOT IS NO LONGER OPEN. Due to a high frequency of locals calling the police, this climbing spot is no longer open on Jeju, under penalty of severe fine/arrest. Additionally, several routes have been stripped of their bolts.

Oedolgae is a high outcropping rock that was created by a volcanic eruption 1.5 million years ago. Legend has it that during the late Goryeo Dynasty, General Choe Yeoung disguised this rock to appear like a gigantic military general to scare off the enemies lurking on Beomseom Islet. this crag is a basalt sea cliff around Oedolgae and overlooks the beautiful ocean, which can be seen on the first page of this chapter. Although the crag is 30m high, the bottom part can not be climbed because of the waves.
