Ascents in Washington as Tick or First ascent

Onsight solo to get up to the Prayer for a Friend finger crack. Did the 5.8 corner at the top.

Supporting Adrian on the FFA of this 20 year old Fitz Cahall project. We climbed the first five pitches to the crux on October 5 with Adrian leading everything and both of us freeing every pitch. The climbing turned out to be way harder and more scary/dangerous/loose than either of us had expected so this took more time and energy than expected. Adrian tried the crux pitch unsuccessfully and I had a go on TR (also unsuccessful lol) and we summited then rapped. The next day (October 6) we hiked up and soloed the West Ridge to access the top crux pitch. Adrian sent second go after we jammed to Gold Lion by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs which was a pretty unreal moment in my life and climbing. Supporting your friends on things that mean a lot to them has got to be one of the coolest things you can do.

Hard and utterly brilliant the whole way. Do this rock climb.

Exceptional! Pitch two really is one of the best. And that final 5.10 pitch, oh boy.

sent the second pitch after falling going out right accidentally to the much harder version.

fell, then fell again, then fell SIDEWAYS then ran away out left.

it was a hard one but I made it to the top after taking a decent fall on a nut and taking more than I should have. full fun. great gear. .5 size gets a lot of action here. would make sure to bring dubs in 2 and 3 and maybe 1.

The grades are actually soft. Flyboys has reset the grades on the Goat Wall.

First tower of the day on the way through the Liberty Traverse

Pretty fun. And a great way to spend a day, especially if it’s dry. P1 is being aggressively reclaimed by the moss, so bring a brush.

P1 is harder than anything on Green Drag-On or Town Crier (both C2+) and it’s at least as serious as (and much tricker than) More Balls Than Brains in the valley (C3), hence the suggested upgrade.

The start of P2 was mostly hooking from start to the bolt. Maybe there were more placements than the knife blade that I found about halfway through, but they were well guarded by vegetation.

Amazing flake systems out here. Granites definitely grippier up here without the glacier polish but the brain is still in yosemite mode and resulted in me desperately ring locking a 5.8 fairly-obviously-layback crack. Got rained out in the arvo and found a pub to knock some pool balls around with the euros. Would really like to do more climbing here and stoked on how the pacific northwest climbing is feeling coming into squamish season!

pumpy up into the roof, need to find less strenuous clipping stances there, take off a bit right and up from the roof for full enjoyment of the actual route and don't dump left, cheating yourself. remember the diagonal crack followed by triangular two finger pocket for the finish above the last roof part

crux was to the second bolt for some reason, hard to clip from under the bolt but scary to go past without.

Completed as part of traverse. Found the start of the offwidth pitch pretty hard - loved the battle.
