Finland is the land of Nalle Hukkataival who made the first 9A boulder, Burden of Dreams. There is also lots of hard sport and hard trad too but humble Finns sticked to humble max 8c+ grades.

Rock climbing season in southern Finland is about April-September for most people and April-November for passionate climbers. In Southern Finland in some south facing crags might be possible to rock climb year-round if you don't mind the conditions - temperature is below freezing in winter. In Lapland bouldering season starts in May and Lapland's rope climbing season starts at latest in June.

Some recommendations: Helsinki area, Tampere area, Kustavi for trad.

In Finnish Lapland there is not many cliffs so only 20-30 rope climbing crags. Few big bouldering areas and some smaller bouldering areas. Korouoma is the place for Finnish ice climbing.

Resumen

Åland is one of the most popular bouldering destinations of Finland. Excellent boulders in stunning landscape and lots of potential for further development.

Acceso

Ferrys from Stockholm, Helsinki or Tallin. Flights to Mariehamn. Most bouldering sites are in the north of Åland around Geta.

Alojamiento

There are various campsites on the island, but probably the best is to rent a timber hut. To stay in walking distance to the boulders take one in Soltuna.

Second largest bouldering area in Åland. Located on the foot of a long rock cliff plus some lone boulders in a forested environment. Quite varied climbing, roofs, slabs and a bit of everything. Generally good landings, but beware of ticks!

Park your car properly - do not block the street or the access to neighbouring fields.

Acceso

Parking is problematic. Better drive up the road a bit further to find some wider roadside spots. From there, walk back the street and hike up the hill, or go diagonally through the forest. The cliff is long and cannot be missed easily.

The most famous boulder area of Åland. Indeed a must if you're on the island and even worth a trip on its own. Endless possibilities in an amazing Zen-like environment, excellent problems on perfect granite and lots of potential for further development.

There have been significant problems with the landowners - absolutely do not use the private road(s). No bivouac.

Acceso

For all sectors, park your car at the Soltuna restaurant and walk in from there (see access issues). Yes it is far, but a very nice hike - to Grottan about 45min, to Fågelberget about 60min.

A nice hidden alternative to the better known areas of Åland. Generally similar to the Soltuna crags, but much more quite.

Acceso

A bit tricky! The approach requires a rather long hike through the forest. Park your car at the beginning of the forest road at GPS 60.338554, 19.853543. Follow the road until you reach a clear cut, cross it and a rocky area after. Then you reach a cliff, which you follow on a faint path to the left until you reach the crag. Overall 30-45min.

Acceso

Drive to Danö and park your car at the end of Danövägen (parking). Walk down the gravel road, after 400m take the right road. When reaching the norther island of Danö, continue on a small path along the east shore passing some houses. Shortly after the last one, the first sectors start.
