The Caverna Caterina is considered an archaeological site under the Italian law 1089/1939 which grants to it strict protection status, prohibiting any alteration of the area, except for activities aimed at scientific research, conservation and enhancement of the site and which need to be previously agreed by the legitimate private owners with the Office for the Protection of Archaeology, Arts and Land of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
