Ascents as various tick types by Thomas Gissing

First time we could get out in decent weather and could find somewhere to get in some slab practice. Very mellow day in a beautiful location.

Actually a beautiful little flake. Would be really fun if it were a really long pitch.

Friction slab practice. Bloody hard.

More slab.

Had holds, so felt 2x easier than the slabs.

Again, prefer routes with holds!

Warm up send. Still pumpy though! Doing laps on this would be fantastic training.

Chossy and quite forgettable.

Fantastic. Some very nice movement, good length, follows a natural feature.

All pretty similar on the RH side. Pleasant, well protected climbing.

First proper day out for more than a month. Humbling to come back feeling so unfit.

Cool down mileage at the end of a long day.

Absolutely buggered when I tried this. So much fun though!

So good. Beautiful side pull sequence and a pumpy final clip. One of the best at this grade that I've climbed.

On the way out of town, first thing in the morning with star jumps to warm up in 6 degree weather. Run it out clipping beta worked.

Still struggling to come to grips with SA grading. This felt bouldery 23AU at least to me. Maybe I'm just weak.

Forgettable. Steep bulge where you crank on a death block straight in front of your face.

Top rope from Fat Annie for Lu, then ran up it for mileage. Wrecked! Pumpy lie backing.

Would be a classic 13 corner at Frog. Wierd climbing a route like this with bolts.

Sweet. Funky crack moves and a mantle. Really fun and interesting climbing.

Fully protectable on gear - but I'm not complaining.

Decent easy route, but has one very cruxy, traverse move which is tricky for shorties.

Thought this was the 19 - a very stiff warm up. Just squeaked it.

A route far right, following a couple of big flakes. Easy, fun moves! Nice!

Cool corner. I wandered a bit, which is why it felt easier than 13. Whatever I ended up climbing was great though. Fun moves, great gear.

No offence to the local climbers here, but all these contrived climbs are a bit silly I think. The area would benefit from a consolidation in the guidebook, down to the obvious lines and leave the variations to the individuals. No need to name and grade ever conceivable link up and create routes that force you to avoid holds or obvious lines of weakness.

Bridging, few little insecure bits. Had a bit of a mental wobble placing the small gear while bridging. As good as easy corner climbing gets.

Seconding Lu. She did great - some actual climbing on this, and every piece she placed was legit bomber. That's my girl!

15 moves on this one. Basically 2 boulder problems split by a nice shake on the slot - never pulled so hard on a 23.

Packs a punch for 10 moves. Enjoyed it.

Thought this was Fish. The mantle move is tricky, but I don't think it's 20 - at least not the way I did it. Maybe the arete is. I went right and finished up chimney. Bomber gear first half, no protection in second half and ground fall is possible/probable if you came off the slabby arete.

Fun little route. The move through the roof was properly bonkas. I can only describe it as a high step kneebar.

Bit of a tricky one on the onsight with the excessive amount of features and the run out finish. Moves are very straightforward once you find the holds though.

The pick of the bunch for me. Very interesting looking rock and classy arete climbing. Absolutely worth the few minutes it takes to walk to the end of the wall.

First climb of the day after a sweaty walk in.

Great route, perfect warm up.

Got through tricky start and ledge rest gave me enough to get it.

Pretty similar to first climb. Really pumped on this and it was a fight to get the send. Few distinct climbing styles/holds on this. Love pockets at the top.

Got it second try. Cool climb!

Last climb of the day.

Awesome route on good holds. Slab was fun. No dramas until a bit of a "Where the f*** is the jug?!" at the chain.

Eyeballed this one as the best thing to try. Felt pretty tricksy through that rooflet, and a big runout at the top after not taking the right sized cams.

Fantastic route! Eyeballed it from the ground without the guide.

Funky moves through caves, stemming, jams - has it all. Good gear too. I didn't see the bolt but it felt adequately protected either way.

Ended up finishing the climb by climbing the back of the detached pillar as an offwidth/squeeze chimney to step across to a tree belay 5m to the left. No gear for last 8m but you won't fall out of that chimney anytime soon. Thanks for belay Chris!

Very easy climbing, but couldn't get decent gear in, made it feel way spicier than it needed to. Not my day for placements at all.

Top 3 best single pitch gear routes I've done. Stellar. Wish I brought my tricams though. It's a definite must do.

Old school 16 but not too sandbag.

Happy with this. Haven't onsighted anything for quite a while, and I think this is the hardest I've done. The start was funky to sequence, then its just keep it together till the chains.

The rock is a bit crapola, but this and the 24 are both worthy routes imo.

Felt pretty casual knowing the beta and being warmed up.

3rd tie in. Not a big fight in the end, but definitely needed the beta assistance on the fly from Kurt.

First 25 - about time! Awesome first day at Flinders.

Great beginner lead. Long, good gear, few nice jams.

Super grunty fun! It's run out at the start, but it's a chimney so not so bad. Doesn't deserve the R I don't think. Actually some good gear.
