Ascents in Eagle's Nest

It's a shame about the no fall zone. This is a VERY enjoyable climb on unique rock for NS that gets soured by the ledge. It'd be one thing if the risk was just hitting the ledge, but if you do fall you'll go off the ledge, and take a very hard left-ward swing probably 4+ meters below the ledge. Not good... The lack of an arms reach bolt above the ledge seems frivolous.

I know I'll get flak, but I'd love to see an extra bolt added (regardless of the historical nature of the crag) to remove some of the risk. Eagles Nest is a potentially a novel crag with superb low-grade climbing close INSIDE the city, but is often overlooked due to the risks of many of the low-graded sport climbs (and the garbage... obviously...)

Don't leave garbage in the woods.

Nick and I each did a lap on lead, Josh did a mock lead … and … then Josh did his first ever sport lead!!!

#2. Quick climb, nothing much to write home about.

#1 - after a morning belaying Scout kids, got to run up this fun little route.

#3. Has some good cracks partway up, but then suddenly the route is over.

Rested once, having tried to use only the left crack.

The tree used for TR anchor has died. Can set an anchor using gear. There are no other trees even remotely close to the climb that could be used as an anchor.

Rope solo, rested at the slopey crimp.

First lead on gear. Fun well protected line.

Bolts have been replaced. Probably a touch harder than 5.6 though.

Used the crack too the climbers left of the actually gully. Could not find any top rope bolts so I used the anchors from Gully Wall and finished there.

Used the top rope bots from the Overhang. Used the edge to work my way up past the sport bolts and then finished at the top of The Overhang.

There are so many different ways to climb this route—it’s a load of fun. Pull up over the roof below the ledge or step across from the right slab or come up the (normal) steps. Then come up the vertical corner right of the bulge over the tree ledge or use the small crack in the middle of that bulge or walk up the steps ascending from the pine tree back right. Then 2 or 3 ways to climb the last part. Have a ball!
