Ascents in Leaning Peak

A couple of mishaps and navigation errors turned what was meant to be a 11hr hike into a 2 days adventure. Had to sleep on the mountain for the night under emergency blanket & tarp. Ran out of water the next day but luckily we have some purifying tablets within the group. Definitely bring headlamp & extra supplies if you are planning to do this route.

Came to do Face of Long Leaning and missed the start. Decided on playing it smart and calling it and jsut to summit another way. Ended up going up something not quite this. Messed up the descent. Long day out. Lower Portals Water is the best tasting thing I've ever had. Glad we carried all the gear and ropes all day to never use it

Quintessential Barney. Lots of fun (and at times quite exposed) scrambling the whole way up. The final push looked far more intimidating from a far than in turned out to be - thankfully! Descended via short leaning and were treated to a beaut swim at the bottom, where Barney falls meets the creek

Summited leaning peak, then linked up North & East peaks, returning down SE Ridge.

Big day. The 6km walk between the car parks at the end of the day was a real mood killer.

Great day out with Henk. Thanks Ryan for the updated description.. we found the start as described. We soloed the first pitch and then ropes up and did two loooong simul pitches (one each) to top out. Super fun route with great featured rock and good enough pro here and there. Reminded me a little of 'The Martian' on Beerwah in that it was great mostly low angled climbing for ages.. just a Trad version though with a harder approach haha.. we took a smidge over 10 hours car to car. Bloody great day!!

The crux was rock hopping down the creek bed at 2.30am after 22hrs of climbing/walking/abseiling. Good to see what the mind can push through! Pretty sure it's called leaning peak cause I was leaning on stuff and things the whole way to stop falling over from fatigue.

Turned into a bit of an epic. The climb being the easiest/most enjoyable part - the upper pitches being absolutely sublime! Rocky Creek descent by head torch was a challenge of the will. 22 hours car-to-car. Would descend Short Leaning Ridge next time for sure.

Nice scramble, good way to bring in the new year! 4.5hrs to the East summit

Definitely my new favourite way up Mt Barney! I was a bit apprehensive about the 5R rock but the slab is so textured/grippy, I felt comfortable. The rock quality also seemed pretty good to me. We roped up (belay off the grass tree) just on p7, for that exposed traverse to the left. But the holds are good and I think it'd be fine without a rope. We took option 7b after that- to the left. Exposed but with juggy holds. Super nice!

Descended via the slabs below North Peak, linked up with Eagles ridge for a bit, and then moonlight slabs and back to lower portals. Lots of loose rocks and trees lower down, so it was slow-going. The rock hopping along Barney creek is fun! Great to get so much mileage on nice rock, with fantastic views, and great company!!

Woohoo! This was a great adventure and one of the hardest and longest hikes I've done. I was already pooped before we reached the start and we went a bit off track. The rock hopping section along barney creek was super beautiful. Great views all the way up the ridge and cool abseil from leaning ridge. Finding our way down North ridge was a bit challenging but satisfying each time we made slow progress down bypassing a steep section. All in all 11 hours starting and finishing at lower portals car park.

Epic day out, scoped out North Face of Leaning Peak for an attempt in a few weeks. Continued up North Peak and up to East Peak and descended via SE Ridge.

Absolutely mint climb, rope only needed to rap down top of leaning peak. Done in hiking boots. Epic views and exposure. Camped overnight at rum jungle.

A little bit of exposed, technical scrambling where you want to be well aware of hollow flakes and loose rock. Absolutely fantastic route. Probably the best unroped route up mt barney.

As grand a day-venture as you can have in SEQ! More like 370m as rather than the 300m description. Incredible slab climbing on the whole route, apart from the crux section up a rotten corner with uninspiring gear. Proud of pushing through the mental battles on this one.

There is some awesome multi pitch slab potential to the left of this route which will be just stellar climbing. An awesome contender for ground-up mixed routes I reckon.

3 hours hike-in, 5hr20 on the route, 2.5hr hike-out.

fun climb, got lost in the dense forest after the rappel however eventually found the faint route. A long day but a real adventure.

Really good as an adventure climb by Queensland standards! I was expecting long cracklines to follow for pro, but was granted with really nice slab pitches instead, with these awesome little pockets and grooves perfect for cams. Good belays, cruisy runouts, loooong pitches, a bit of loose rock to keep things engaging, and gorgeous views all round. Got off-route on this, but I'm barely sure if there's an on-route. It's really a choose-your-own adventure sort of cliff! It's an epic adventure that really should get explored more often. 12 hrs car to car. Descended via Rocky Creek.

Walk in, rock hoping up the creek was fun and pretty views. Lower part of the ridge was a scrambly bush walk with lots of shade, from about half way the views really open up and it gets fun, up easy slab with just a tiny bit of exposure. Took a detour up a steep section of grade 10 slab instead of traversing. Great views from the summit. Nice shinny chains to rap down onto the saddle. Decent via the north ridge was unpleasant and hard to navigate

Easy scramble to the final crux, located below the summit. We followed juggy ramps located in the left hand-side of the ridge (grade 7). The crux itself has three options, we chose the left one (traverse with considerable exposure, grade 10) which has the option of a belay using a small bush tree. The scramble to the summit is very exposed but easy climb (grade 5-6). The whole ridge offers exceptional rock quality. A lovely day of fun easy climbing, hard scrambling from a hiker's perspective. The summit rappel is now bolted (2 hangers with rap rings) and requires a 60-m rope. We descended via Eagles Slabs which is quite tricky but not difficult if care and common sense is followed, you can always rope up if unsure. The rest of the descent was done following a creek located in the saddle between Isolated and North Peaks.

The ultimate classic Mt Barney climb. Extremely enjoyable throughout with spectacular views.

8 hrs return this time. One cam placed.

What a super-great hard bushwalk. 9hrs return. You need 50m rope to rap off end, otherwise only option is walking back the same way.
