Hat Head

Hat Head NP is a stunning place between Crescent Head and South West Rocks. Also a great place for a swim, surf or dive.

Korogoro

Top roping on conglomerate

Korogoro
16 Top Hat

Approx 30 m's before the grassy bowl above the slot, head right and steep downhill to the tope-rope anchors. Use long slings or set-up rope to reduce rope drag

14 Panama

1/2 way between Top Hat and the next water tanks, head right and down, to the small promitory over the little bay, to the tope-rope anchors. Panama is on the south side of the anchors

14 Fedora

Same anchors as Panama, but Fedora is on the north side of them

16 Beanie

The anchors are above the first wall opposite the "almost-an-island" lump of angled rock. Climb up the corner of the detached slab, or directly up the face

15 Baseball

About 50m's east of Beanie the cliff line heads nth (left). Approx 5m's further along are the anchors. Baseball is on the south side of them, and looks like a slabby corner from above

19 Beret

Same anchors as for Baseball, but on the Nth side. Some crap loose rock 1/2 way up, but mostly sound. Very sharp rock so watch rope drag

15 Bowler

Anchors are directly above the obvious little rock pool visible from Baseball and Beret. Start on the slab face just to the left of the rock pool, moving right towards the arete only when necessary

Smoky Cape

Perfect adamellite has sculptured some great boulders. The landing is uneven so a mat is helpful

Smoky Cape
V1 Heave ho

Reach over the lip and pull on to mantle with the aid of the rock fin. A more difficult sit start awaits

V4 Mister Postman

Jump for the letterbox slot just right of arete ( or deduct a grade if you can reach it) then continue up arete. An excellent but harder sit start is possible.

V3 Flake traverse

A rising left traverse along stepped flakes, starting in sentry box and not topping out until arete

V1 V chimney

From the sentry box use both walls to attain the chockstone than exit left above Flake traverse

V2 Spike

Step from a rock spike onto the arete with a horizontal seam then more easily up the slab finishing right of chockstone

V2 Cookie Monster

Climb the dog leg finger crack at the south side of the block with a useful knob to the left. Hand jamming can be useful to exit

V0 Between the lines

The slab on the end of the bloc between the cracks

V0 Grover

The Cookie Monster crack on the slab side facing the ocean

V2 Ernie

The centre of the slab right of Grover with the undercut start

V1 Bert

The black diagonal streak up the slab right of ernie

V2 Dabber

A novelty mantle from a sit start pull over the nose

V0 Viewpoint

Sit start lay off the sharp arete to the ocean side of dabber without using the corner behind

V0- Periwinkle

Up the centre of the slab facing the ocean, viewpoint is just to the left

V1 La Mer

Found on the wall above but facing the inlet. There are two diagonal cracks on a slightly overhung wall with a ramp rising beneath you. Sit start and climb the right crack on excellent holds without bridging onto the ramp

South Smokey Beach- CLOSED

CLOSED.....Some good granite bouldering was done here years ago in the dunes, now an aboriginal area that is fenced off. Please STAY OUT!
