Grade Route Gear style Quality
Fri 9th Feb 2024 - Mt Tibrogargan
South Face
17 Traxion Action - with Matt E Sport 210m
Decent climbing. First pitch was pretty straightforward for the grade, everything else was pretty casual scrambling. So good to get outdoors and top out Tibro. Was pretty hot, but cloud cover and a good wind kept things sane. We simul-climbed from the midway rap anchor of pitch 2 to the top. About an hour on the wall. Descended via caves route to cave 1 then rapped down Zeitgeist.

26 The French Connection - with Matthew Burt, Kyle Addy Sport 20m, 9 Classic
Clean to shield but not enough endurance. Happy to remember all the beta though.

Fri 23rd Oct 2020 - Mt Tibrogargan

25 Wailer - with Jack Kilsby Sport 18m, 5 Classic
Left foot pinged at jug below crux. Bummed, but unlikely that I’d have made it through.

25 Wailer - with Jack Kilsby Sport 18m, 5 Classic
Gear on. Super humid, no breeze, hard crux. It’s really good though.

19 Something About Sandy - with Matthew Burt, Jack Kilsby Sport 13m, 5 Good
Gear back on for Matt. Tough little crux on this one; I used hard beta but worked out something better on the way down that Matt used to send.

15 Such A Nice Monster - with Mum, Dad Sport 15m, 4 Very Good
TR up for Mum and Dad. Mum sat once on her first go, Dad flashed it on lead, then mum sent it on TR.

Tue 20th Oct 2020 - Mt Ninderry
Ocean Vista Area
25 24 Funnel Web - with Jack Kilsby, Matthew Burt Sport 20m, 9 Good
End of day send. Almost came off turning the lip, then again above the second last bolt. Blew another big chunk underfoot that almost hit Jack. Much pump, many screams, lots of choss. Great movement, but never again. [3]

25 24 Funnel Web - with Jack Kilsby, Matthew Burt Sport 20m, 9
Back on after Jack worked out alternate beta sans the useful blob. Was pretty scared the other blobs you crank on through the start were going to blow unexpectedly too

25 24 Funnel Web - with Dick Harding, Jack Kilsby, Matthew Burt Sport 20m, 9
Flash attempt abruptly ended when the massive blob I was kneebar-ing exploded. Big, back-first whip into a small tree Was maybe 1.5m off the deck and only just to the side of the slab you belay from. Too close, not fun.

21 Choke On Your Sushi - with Dick Harding Sport 15m, 5 Average
Second bolt to the lip of the cave was great. Spacing between first and second was a bit yuck and some chossy rock at the start. Anchor bolts are too close together too. Probably not the worst route here, but definitely not the best.

20 Chim chim cheroo - with Matthew Burt, Jack Kilsby Sport 27m, 9 Good
Okay chimney-ing to a steep little crux.

Mon 19th Oct 2020 - Mt Ninderry
Octopuses Garden
24 Hello Sailor - with Matthew Burt Sport 10m, 5 Very Good
Just enough in the tank to pull through. Had to climb fast though. Great punchy climbing! I really rate this and Waterline. Thanks Ross! [2]

24 Hello Sailor - with Matthew Burt Sport 10m, 5 Very Good
Onsight attempt ended at the second crux. Got suckered into bad tick marks and only just made it to the jug below the fourth; by that time I had the lactic glasses on and couldn't see where I was meant to be going. Sat there, then worked out the rest pretty easily.

Mon 19th Oct 2020 - Mt Ninderry
Caves Area
26 Struggle Snuggle - with Matthew Burt Sport 13m, 6
Fine to the crux. Then no clue. Hard tensiony positions. Couldn't really piece a viable sequence together so had to dog through. End would definitely be pumpy.

24 25 Nitroglycerin - with Matthew Burt Sport 15m, 6 Classic
Easy done this time. Great wall climbing. I take back what I previously said about the anchor placement...it's fine, I just wasn't using a good sequence to equip/clip them. With the anchor clip sorted, this feels on par with some of the vert 24s I’ve done recently. [5]

25 Nitroglycerin - with Matthew Burt, Mum, Dad Sport 15m, 6 Classic
Gear on. Ended up going for the send as I felt really comfortable at the fourth. Punted at the anchors. Spent some time looking at alternative clipping positions and found a really solid, game changing sequence that makes so much more sense than what I've been trying.

Fri 16th Oct 2020 - Mt Ninderry
Caves Area
25 Nitroglycerin - with Matthew Burt Sport 15m, 6 Very Good
Heartbroken. Whipped from the second last hold before you step onto the ledge. Short sit on the rope, pulled back on and fired it off easily. Still lacking power endurance today. Could have been a send with a little more try-hard. Really good wall climbing but those anchors are still stressful haha

25 Nitroglycerin - with Matthew Burt Sport 15m, 6 Very Good
Six years since I first tried it Casually up to the hard part. Sat at 5th and 6th bolts to double check sequences and brush holds. Climbed poorly through the last section and was quickly reminded that I hate the anchors on this. Equipping them should not be the crux lol. After taking the whip and having a whinge, I got the anchor draws on, sorted out a better sequence past the last bolt and came down. -1 star for the anchor placement but otherwise really good climbing.

21 Dontworry.com - with Matthew Burt, Mum, Dad Sport 25m, 10 Classic
Warm up and TR setup for Mum. She did outstanding on this. Smashed out the slab start in good style, then proceeded to crank through the steep terrain to the start of the cracked face. She had to sit here and at the next two bolts, but once through the step-over, she cruised to the anchors! So good!

Thu 15th Oct 2020 - Mt Coolum
24 Has It Got a Chevy Motor? - with Matthew Burt Sport 12m, 7 Very Good
Only just. Was working pretty hard from the fourth on. Thought the broken hold was going to make it more awkward/difficult, but didn’t seem to make too much difference.

24 Has It Got a Chevy Motor? - with Matthew Burt Sport 12m, 7 Very Good
Warm up. Pretty tired and low on power today, despite not having done much this week.

Wed 14th Oct 2020 - Mt Ninderry
Caves Area
21 Dontworry.com - with Matthew Burt, Dad Sport 25m, 10 Classic
After Matt's send. Dad did really well on TR too. This really is an excellent route. Was pouring rain when Matt got down, so I just went up on TR to get the gear off fast.

Wed 14th Oct 2020 - Mt Ninderry
Enter the Ninja Sector
18 Fletcher in the Sky - with Matthew Burt
1 18 26m
2
Sport 26m, 11
P1 only. Failed to read the route description properly and thought there was a midway belay that Mum and Dad could top-rope on. No bueno! Went up after Matt to clean the gear. In hindsight, I should have given P2 an attempt, but I wasn't warm at all and I wanted to get the others on different routes.

Tue 13th Oct 2020 - Brooyar
Black Stump Buttresses
19 Beyond the Black Stump - with Matthew Burt Sport 15m Classic
Cleaning gear after Matt's onsight.

19 Footprints on the Other Side - with Matthew Burt Sport 18m, 6 Very Good
After Matt. Dad had one sit on this on TR.

18 Annabelistic - with Matthew Burt Sport 16m, 7 Very Good
Warming up after Matt. Dad sent this on TR after warming up on Snake Charmer.

Mon 12th Oct 2020 - Coolum Beach
The Prow Boulder
V4 Cannon in a Canoe - with Matthew Burt, Dad Boulder 2m
No clue on how to pull off the ground on this either. After trying this and Figurehead a bunch, I called it quits to save skin.

V4 Figurehead - with Matthew Burt, Dad Boulder 2m
Struggled to pull of the ground... same deal for Cannon et al

V3 Down to a Sunless Sea - with Matthew Burt, Dad Boulder 3m Very Good
Best of the three that I did. Fun movement through the undercling to the lip.

V2 Staring at the Water's Edge - with Matthew Burt, Dad Boulder 3m Good
Good, but a bit awkward having to avoid the obvious blocks at the base.

V1 Mal De Mer - with Matthew Burt, Dad Boulder 2m Very Good
Short but fun. Rock is coarse.

Sat 10th Oct 2020 - Flinders Peak (limited access)
The Secret Cave
29 Desperado - with Jack Kilsby Sport 30m, 12 Classic
Linked to the start of first traverse but using too much energy to get there. Pulled through okay after a sit and sorted out most of the movement from there to the last kneebar before the main crux traverse. That traverse will need a bit of work...not sure Rick or Jack’s beta will work for me. Touched the first dyno but couldn’t stick it. Was pretty smoked by that point. Such fun climbing.

22 Never Ask the Moon - with Matthew Burt Sport 25m, 8 Good
Warm up and gear on for Matt. He sent!

Sat 3rd Oct 2020 - Flinders Peak (limited access)
The Secret Cave
29 Desperado - with Jack Kilsby, Rick Helm Sport 30m, 12 Classic
Was pretty low on energy and psych today but jumped on this anyway; definitely boosted my psych a bit. Super fun even though I only went about halfway. Everything up to there seems pretty doable for me; will be interesting to see how I find the upper half next time. Looks well hard but really good.

25 Wet Jigsaw Puzzle - with Matthew Burt Sport 15m, 7 Very Good
Fell moving to the good kneebar at the last bolt. Was a bit scrappy through the crux too.

22 Never Ask the Moon - with Matthew Burt Sport 25m, 8 Good
Warm up and gear on for Matt. Was inefficient and had to sit at the crux to avoid flash pumping.

22 Welcome To The Thunderdome - with Jack Kilsby, Matthew Burt, nathan mcneil Sport 22m, 9 Very Good
Flash attempt failed trying beta that made no climbing sense. My fault for following what I was told. Found a more straightforward sequence. Great consistent climbing on this; keen to come back for a send attempt. Great line Jack Kilsby!

24 25 Harold Boon (Fred's 25) - with Jack Kilsby, Matthew Burt, nathan mcneil Sport 16m, 8 Good
Had lunch and a long break after Jack's send to make sure I felt good enough to go again. Cruised all of it and got to the anchors feeling nicely warmed up... Overall, I think this is 24; lots of jugs and kneebars and overall quite short. Initial roof may be hard for shorties though. [3]

25 Harold Boon (Fred's 25) - with Jack Kilsby, Matthew Burt, nathan mcneil Sport 16m, 8 Good
Worked out a much simpler sequence for the initial roof section. The rest felt good; refreshed sequences between kneebars etc. Finish felt quite awkward this time; couldn't remember what I did last time I was on it. Quite hot today and came down feeling pretty fatigued.

27 Staring Down The Line - with Matthew Burt Sport 24m, 9 Good
Came out late afternoon to get out of the house. Matt and co had been here all day and were finishing up so I had a quick lap on this. Conditions were very wintery today and the route felt completely different. Found a workable sequence to and past the last bolt to the ledge. Confirms that this probably needs good conditions for me, so I think I'll leave it for next winter. It's actually pretty cool climbing for three/four bolts.

27 Staring Down The Line - with Matthew Burt, Mum, Dad Sport 24m, 9 Good
Happy with my beta up the middle of the route. Still struggled to piece together a viable sequence to and past the last bolt before the ledge. Dogged past and scoped out the finish. Think this may need winter conditions.

27 Staring Down The Line - with Matthew Burt, Mum, Dad Sport 24m, 9 Good
Bolt to bolt from start to crux. Sorted out a reasonable sequence to start the hard part off, but had no chance after that. Well hard and definitely not my style. Gets quite thin.

21 COVID Light (Asymptomatic) - with Matthew Burt, Mum, Dad Sport 22m Good
Gear on and warm up. Tired today; had to grab the anchor draw after placing it. Clipped across to Staring Down The Line on the way down and put gear on it.

17 Pterodactyl D - with Matthew Burt Sport 17m, 4 Good
TR up for Dad. He did well; found moving above the first bolt a touch hard, but worked a sequence out then went from there to the chains.

16 Septuagenarian Sound Effects - with Matthew Burt Sport 18m, 6 Average
Some interesting movement in sections. Holds I used felt surprisingly solid despite looking like dried mud. Definitely some recent breaks, so I wonder if it's harder now. The way I climbed the start, I'd suggest 17, but I didn't bother looking for an easier sequence when I lowered off, so could just be due to poor choices during the onsight. Will be interesting to see how this route evolves...

21 20 The Alchemist - with Matthew Burt Sport 22m Good
Was blowing up on this. Combination of the route being much more consistent than I expected and reading things a bit poorly. Should be pretty good when it cleans up more. 21 felt right for my onsight, but could be 20 if climb more intelligently

21 COVID Light (Asymptomatic) - with Matthew Burt Sport 22m Good
Warm up. Gear on Darklight for Matt on the way down.

24 Blood Moon - with Matthew Burt Sport 20m Good
Climbed the start really well, but forgot to take draws (sigh), so had to come down. Climbing back up with draws, I pulled off decent chunk of rock that almost hit Matt Managed to stay on and had no issues getting through to the anchors. Fun climbing, but not as nice as others round here. On the soft side [3]

After Matt's onsight attempt. Fell attempting his feet first beta out the roof. Will need to try something different there next time. The rest is fine jugging with plenty of kneebars. Feels quite short really; will be good to checkout the extension once its open.

25 Metamorphosis - with Matthew Burt Sport 22m, 10 Very Good
Boom! Was really only expecting to link to the dead point, but managed to execute that perfectly and found myself below the head wall. Managed to just scrape through the final hard move and clipped the chains. Solid and really good value for the grade. Another great line Tom Reid! One of my favourites here. [3]

21 COVID Light (Asymptomatic) - with Matthew Burt Sport 22m Good
Warm up. Clipped across to Metamorphosis on the way down and extended the last bolt and dead point bolt so I can clip them early.

25 Metamorphosis - with Matthew Burt Sport 22m, 10 Very Good
Clean to fifth bolt but forgot one move so missed the jugs. Pulled back on and went to the dead point; missed it and took the full exciting whip. Clipped it before doing the move and managed to latch it this time. Couldn't do the last hard move on the head wall so came down. Think I'll extend the last bolt heaps so I can clip it early; falling on the last hard move before you can clip the last bolt brings you scarily close to the ledge. I never hit it, but it was certainly making me less confident about committing to the move

25 Metamorphosis - with Matthew Burt Sport 22m, 10 Very Good
Bolt to bolt. First half is great climbing. Dead point is tough. Head wall is spooky and distinct.

23 22 Dark COVID (Symptomatic) - with Matthew Burt Sport 25m Very Good
Draws were on. Not as valuable as a linkup when compared to Asymptomatic, but a fun variation to Darklight nonetheless. [1]

25 24 Darkened Hero (The Second Wave) - with Jack Kilsby Sport 23m Good
It's a little forced, but I really enjoyed going through Darklight's hard start before frothing through YH's on more tired arms. Feels like a lot of climbing and makes the route more difficult overall, despite the restful middle. Stoked to get this on the same day as the send of YH. Had to put up a huge fight to get through YH's crux and not fall going to the anchors. I think YH is already borderline 25, so suggesting this is 25 just because of the harder start. Interested to hear what others think (if anyone bothers with this link) [1]

24 Yesterday's Hero - with Jack Kilsby Sport 22m Good
Woo! Helps when you're fresh. Quite a punishing crux sequence. Borderline 25? [6]

23 22 Darklight - with Matthew Burt Sport 24m Very Good
Surprise send. Somehow managed to piece it all together, finding some better beta for the start as I climbed. Middle section went easily and soaked up the rest before the steep finish. The rests definitely help keep this in the 23 territory. [2]

21 COVID Light (Asymptomatic) - with Matthew Burt Sport 22m Good
Climbed really well; finish felt easy (no idea why I got so spooked by it last session). Feels a grade easier than COVID-22. I think it's a worthwhile (and obvious link-up) and should present as really good warm up option. [2]

21 COVID Light (Asymptomatic) - with Matthew Burt Sport 22m Good
Wanted to work the finish of Darklight, so went up COVID-22's easy start. Stick-clipped Darklight's anchor from it's last bolt and managed to work out a sequence and, more importantly, a clipping stance for the anchor. Felt much more straightforward than last time.

TR up for Mum and Dad. Mum got a new hight point, climbing to the start of the crux without sitting. One sit there, then through to the mantle. A few attempts there and she unlocked the sequence and went on to the chains. Awesome effort. Dad had a good fight on this one too managing a clean send on TR.
