Stars for location and the 2nd pitch.

Oh, beware of the last bolt: it's a little runout, a bit too high, round the corner, totally blind and tricky to clip (what's with that Heath Black?). I ended up skipping it and having a pretty serious runout. |

A hidden gem for the connoisseurs.
The bold and beautiful Hazel Findlay reckons splitters can get quite boring and repetitious; whatever she says I always take on board, I wonder why. And this Daddy has it all. Fist jams into fingers locks, straight into underclings; desperate side pulls on slabs ; a rest or two (ask yourself why you were granted this). Wait there comes the ig bad bulge, if you have balanced passed this have a breathe or two; you can probably smell the top from here. So so near but so so far, just hope you have the right cam left for the job (headpointers like me can hide in a hole). Open your "climbing move encyclopedia" to pull past, if It isn't there atleast you and I learnt a move or two. Gear beta: Double rack with singles of #2 and #3, compulsory set of wires accompanied with loads of confiance en soi. Top rope followed by lead attempt (two falls; uno en gaining slab, segundo en crux). |

Sent on first lead attempt as one mega pitch after a few top rope laps. I don’t see any reason to split it into many pitches as the line is straight from bottom to top.
Second pitch is just awesomeness, with balancy and technical moves around the arrete with mega exposure. At the top of the climb you just pray none of these brittle holds are gonna break to send you flying, spoiling such a great effort! |

Sensational climbing, another contender for the best 20 around Sydney?
Yes the rock in the first section looks pretty bad, most of the jugs are begging to break off, but everything was solid and held. Done in one single pitch, with 4 or 5 alpine draws used in the first section the rope drag was not too bad.
My second didn’t seem to enjoy as much as me... but I have to admit that first move out of the belay must be a pant shitting one when done on second...! |
|||||||
23 | ★★★ Titanical | 42m | |||||
Just sussing out the moves. P1 with the good sequence decoded shouldn’t be too hard, but the start of P2 and end of P3 will be challenging.
Had quite a small epic with the rope stuck around a pinch on the arrete and difficulty communicating it in the windy conditions. Will be back on this one, projecting to do it in 1 pitch. |

Take 16 draws and you'll have enough to clip everything on the way down and maybe a few left over. Climbed as one big pitch. Covers some amazingly steep and exposed terrain, though never really gets difficult. The rock quality is a mixed bag, but it didn't detract from the enjoyment of the route. The thin moves up the slabby headwall are undoubtedly the icing on the cake.
|
|||||||
20 | ★★ Captain Cheese | 33m, 2 | ★★ Very Good
Climbed as one big pitch. The initial traverse, and steep face-section near the start is straightforward and enjoyable sportiness... but happens to go safely on gear! The upper corner is great rock and clean, and involves easy technical stemming with tonnes of protection.
|
|||||||
23 | ★★★ Titanical | 42m | ★★★ Classic
With Neil. The classic of the crag. P1 - Red Point (didn't find the crucial hold around the left side of the arete and barn-doored off.); P2 - Onsight (linked into P1); P3 - Onsight. Sure, there are some sections of fragile rock, but the quality of climbing is top notch. You might TRY to escape the arete, but one way or another you're going to arete climb your way up the entire route. Encompasses the full spectrum of technical arete moves, and is steeper than you think.
|
|||||||
22 | ★★★ Sleep is for the Weak | 25m, 9 | ★★ Very Good
A great route on good rock, in an engaging position. Enjoyable water-polished rock. The essence of this climb seemed to be sustained moves at gr22 throughout the route, with no distinctly easier or harder moves, but good stances (it's mostly slabby) throughout. Quite technical and thin.

1 Shot after a 50 minute hike from Lawerence Hargrave Drive in hot, humid, and somewhat rainy conditions. I did eventually do all the moves, but this ain't my style. Super thin, technical, and sustained face climbing for 15m, then it's easier...but the rock gets sandy and you're still getting worked mentally. Probably a grade harder than what Monty is willing to pay.
