Dominating the skyline of La Paz, Illimani is Bolivia's second highest mountain at 6438m.
There is a 20 Bolivano fee that you may or may not be required to pay in the small town of Pinaya. Mules and porters can also be hired here.
From La Paz, venture along precipitous mountain roads to the township of Pinaya (about 4 hours drive). A few hours walk from the town will find you at Puente Roto base camp, a flat area with some pit toilets. For the Normal Route, a well-beaten trail leads from base camp up a large rocky scree spur. A surprisingly reliable map of the trail can be found on the mobile app Maps.Me
