Ascents in Balcony Helvetia

What a route!!! Happy to finally onsight a 7c which is considered as hard....makes me feel a bit better about all the softies I ticked ;-)

Very pumpy as a warmup but super cool climbing.

What a hoot! My longest-running Kalymnos project…I put 6 sessions total into this rig, 5 of them in May/June hoping it would be my first 7c. Six months later it became my 7th of the grade, on my first try of the day! Huzzah!

If this route didn’t have a cave rest before the final headwall it would be 7c+ all day. Not the easiest 7c I’ve done, but also not the hardest.

The mud river tufa thing is so freakin’ cool. It’s too bad this route doesn’t end 2 bolts lower. The top section is awkward, greasy, and uncharacteristically hard compared to the rest of this climb. Loses 2 stars from me for this alone.

One-move wonder through a shitty polished tufa. The rest of the climb is on pleasant edges.

second 12b onsight of the trip, very tricky crux where my pinky actually got some protagonism in the way i solved the sequence, making it very a interesting climb

first 12c onsight of the trip, making it very exciting as it is on my max onsight grade level ever. fun climbing with (thankfully) good rests. still needed endurance between the rests tho

So much fun. One of the best 7b I reckon.

Top half is excellent, first half so lala. Crux is hard.

Quick half day before fleeing the island ahead of some predicted storms and ferry cancellation. Did this with a couple of sits. Nice tufa climbing.

There will be no end to mythos consumption on this trip. Great climb. Punchy commiting moves down low, some power needed at the bulge leaving the flake system, them a delicate traverse and anchor clip that I almost dropped.

Nearly every hold is a tufa on this.

barely did all moves. tough, thuggy boulder moves at bolt 4 and 5. Awkward top half. It has some tufas but to call it a perfect tufa system is a bit of an overstatement because alot of essential holds are non tufa. Not to mention the top half. Surely a lot of fun if you climb at least a little above the grade. Glad about garry's thoughts that he found it tough even though he climbs way above the grade.

Failed at the crux
