Ascents in Aoraki / Mount Cook having Beta

Pretty green and the gear was a little tough, didn't feel confident about as many pieces as I would've liked.

Fell on the third crux

Where to begin... the aim was Red Arete but... parked at wrong carpark, approach instructions now lead us to the wrong crag, I didn't look at the topo just the route description, didn't want to walk backwards to find the route, felt like we were on the wrong climb when the first pitch has no rap chains half way (it does but I thought my pitch was closer to 30m than 60m) and I stopped there and set up an anchor (uncomfortable) G then followed and went to the top of this climb and I followed, technically wasn't on sight since I stopped half way but it was easy and I didn't get any beta off G. Then after G finished I saw bolts above and we assumed we kept going, Nicked extension is a 20 with 2 small roofs. Led to the first roof fine after seeing bolts and rap chains going everywhere. Started getting over it (seemed much harder than anything I'd assumed I was on) and midway through the move my left foot popped, shin smashed the lip of the roof and fell very unexpectedly, got quite scared and after much umming and ahhing decided to downclimb removing bolts on the way to a random rap point, G then climbed up to me and we bailed from here 5m or so under the roof, rapped off and walk back to the van before working out what we had been on the whole time. At least I didn't fall off a grade 15 climb 💁‍♂️

After yesterdays faff the weather was OK today as well so we did what we actually intended to do! Also went to the top Anchors on Mako for some extra climbing on the last pitch. Possible to get down in 3 raps from there with an 80m rope.

Didn't want to fall so worked it out slowly in sections dropping off each move, eventually got to the point of no return and kept going to the top

Got the sick pic, felt like I could mantle out earlier but the description said to keep going around, gassed myself out but feasible.

Also did some v0s on the side of hard pinch prow that we couldn't find names for.

Worked at it for a while with G, got very close but we had to leave, nice boulder

6m above wires on a slab...interesting?!?

Avoided the normal gully most of the way and climbed on the face to avoid ice/rock fall.

Excellent crimps! Looks like the bolt after the 5 has been fixed. A great “weatbix” climb!

Spent ages trying to find the start. Ended up climbing a pitch 20m right of the arete. After that moved left onto the arete proper and did another pitch up the small corner on the arete (loose undercut block at the crux). 14 hours as a 3 and roped up for most of it

Run out death clips onto ledge. Loose rock too, not recommended. Did clean to last bolt then retreated. Others left bail gear on routes all round here.

Too late in the day, not enough juice left in the tank. Should be doable when fresh. Good contact strength and heel hook game required.

Super hard

Somewhat scary rocking onto arête and slab. Might have bailed if not for the dozen of onlookers cheering me on.

Such a fun one! Felt close. Just need a little bit more strength to hold the swing.

King line

Rock quality far from perfect. Lots of hard moves for the grade.

Beautiful Font-like boulder problem. Would be a polished classic in the Forest. So good!

Best problem in the area.

Climb like you’re on a Moonboard. Probably why I couldn’t do it.
