Ascents by Dáire Kelly having Trad CPR

Some good jamming, my first crack climb on the sharp end in over two months, felt reasonably solid

TRG course. Only difficult part was making sure I wasn't pumped before the last hard move

Read the topo wrong, thought I was climbing Hornpiece on the pinnacle to the left, and was surprised to get to the top of this 17.

Couldn't find any gear placements in the last 4 metres, and had a mild freak out over the thoughts of an 8 metre whipper!

Rock climbs around Melbourne had it right, it's a 13. You just can't jam if you upgrade it

Isaac's lead, my foot popped off coming around the corner onto the slab. Finished up Speigal's Overhang.

Good laybacking moves, unfortunately had to take a rest because the #5 cam got really stuck when trying to clean the route

Did two laps to build my endurance and my skills for handjamming.

Swung leads with Claire, guidebook says the climb is 13, thecrag says 17, I'll split the difference and say it's 15/16. Surprisingly solid rock

The base is a bit overgrown, overshot the approach and ended up on P1 of Whiteline Fever. Isaac lead that, and I lead a combined P2 and P3. Definitely worth the 3 stars.

Climbed on top rope to retrieve gear, and to practise jams.

That was an adventure. Seconded the first pitch, led the second pitch, and the had to lead the third pitch after Marcus couldn't work out how to get around the roof into the corner. Our party of three was gettong cooked in the sun before the fourth pitch, so we bailed by climbing up Arachnus instead of struggling up the last overhanging crack. I'll be back for it one day.

Followed Pete up to get to Yerba/Vomit Wall. Felt a bit sandbagged for a 16

Nice route, bit pumpy in places, the gorse bushes are a bit of a problem in shorts

Some delicate climbing with exposure that makes it feel a tad harder than the grade implies. Rapped off the bolts on Penny Dreadful after P1

Weighted the rope way too many times. Just wanted to throw myself at it, see how I could go at off widths. The answer is not great. Just need more time climbing in general before I feel confident enough to lead it.

Overall, a great climb. The L-R traverse on P1 definitely required some mental prep before launching into it. That bit alone made P2 feel a lot easier than a 13! P2 was cruisey the whole way up. P3 stepped things up again with a tough 10m traverse across to the crack. Wasn't bothered with the grade 7 P4 and messing around in Ali's, so rapped off of the bolt anchor at the end of P3

My first climb in more than three months, felt good to get on real rock again

Needed something to warm up on

Tried leading it, but overestimated my ability to jam. Tried down climbing and ending up aggravating an old ankle injury

Following Luke up after his first trad lead in my mountain boots

Involved a lot more groveling than I expected, probably because I lost the ability to jam

Brought Steve and Maggie up to help get ready for NZ in a few weeks

A good place to escape the heat if you start early enough in the day!

First time out on the rock in a long time. Good to scout ahead of a top rope trip the following week
